Thirteen years ago..
Thursday.
"Good Morning doc!" Lily exclaimed after seeing me went out of the elevator.
I started working in this polyclinic more than a year ago. This was actually my first job as a licensed dentist. Holding my cup of coffee and my hand bag, I entered my own clinic and Lily followed me inside.
My clinic stands adjacent to the reception and opposite it is the waiting area for patients. It was a closed room with television and wifi.
Since it's just past 9 in the morning, the building is still at peace.
There are also other doctors like dermatologist, gynecologist and ophthalmologist on all other floors but they usually work after lunch. Only dental clinics starts the day off early.
"Morning." I replied and put my coffee on the table.
Lily gave me two patient's file. I sat on my chair and flipped the first one open to look at the patient's history. It was a follow up visit and I have to do a root canal treatment today. I closed it and opened the other one. It was a new file for an eight year old girl.
Lily finished taking all of her history. That's actually my job but I'm glad she did it because I woke up at the wrong side of the bed today so I'm really not in the mood asking parents about their child's health status.
Dylan and I had a huge fight last night about where to spend his birthday next week. The moment he said that he can't make it, I told him that I already need to sleep and I don't want to know the reason behind it. He wasn't my boyfriend anyway. The kind of relationship we have is complicated.
"I did the history myself, because the child's dad is such a cutie. Call me if you need anything." Lily winked at me and went out of the room.
I can't help but adore her enthusiasm when there is someone who captured her interest. She's always the jolly one, wearing her drop dead gorgeous smile and the way she communicates to others with it. I sometimes wonder if she even has her own bad days.
I stood up and went to my little bathroom for a quick re-touch of my nude make up. I am wearing a pink polo shirt, denim jeans and a pair of red moccasin shoes. I got my lab gown, put it on, ponytailed my auburn wavy hair and put on my glasses. I went out and buzzed Lily on her answering machine telling her to let my first patient in.
"The cute one first?" She was giggling.
"Whoever you wanted first." I answered and waited for the door to open.
I know Lily pretty well as much as she knows me. When I'm in the mood to work, I'm the boss but in times like this that I don't really like thinking a lot, she is the boss. She decides when to stop patients and if who will come in first.
I was busy writing on the chart of the follow up patient when I heard the door creek open. I didn't bother looking up.
"Good morning doctor." It was a voice of a male.
I looked at him. He wasn't really the head turner kind of a guy and he wasn't even smiling. I don't know what made Lily say that he is adorable.
"Morning, please come in." I gestured him to come inside because he was just peeking his head. He looks embarrassed and I don't know what I did or said to make him feel that.
"Hayley! Come on! We talked about this!" He said and entered the room. I saw the child winded around his left leg almost sobbing. He can't even walk straight because Hayley is a little overweight for her age. I was trying hard not to laugh but they really look funny.
