NOTHING CAPS OF A PERFECT MORNING LIKE A LONG TAXI RIDE WITH AN ANGRY GIRL... THE SAME GIRL PERCY WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE ON A DATE TODAY. Percy tried to talk to Aurora, but she was acting like he'd just punched her grandmother. Which is what it probably felt like to her considering Percy just ruined their perfectly planned day.
As Percy watched Aurora, his heart sank like a stone in his chest. The weight of guilt pressed heavily upon him, a suffocating presence that threatened to overwhelm him. He had ruined their first date and shattered the anticipation and excitement they had both felt.
All Percy managed to get out of Aurora was that she'd trained harder non-stop at Camp, she'd visited Annabeth with Aden and had a monster-infested spring in San Francisco, and she'd learned nothing about the whereabouts of Nico di Angelo (long story).
"Any word on Luke?" Percy asked.
Aurora shook her head, trying not to get angrier.
Percy knew this was a touchy subject for her.
Aurora had always looked up to Luke, the former head counselor for Hermes who had betrayed them and joined the evil Titan Lord Kronos.
Aurora wouldn't admit it, but Percy knew she was still hurt by him.
When they'd fought Luke on Mount Tamalpais last winter, he'd somehow survived a fifteen-meter fall off a cliff. Now, as far as Percy knew, Luke was still sailing around on his demon-infested cruise ship while his chopped-up Lord Kronos re-formed, bit by bit, in a golden sarcophagus, biding his time until he had enough power to challenge the Olympian gods.
In demigod-speak, they call this a 'problem'.
"When Aden and I visited Annie, Mount Tam was still overrun with monsters," Aurora said. "We didn't dare go close, but we don't think Luke is up there. Annie and I think we would know if he was."
That didn't make Percy feel much better.
"What about Grover?" Percy asked.
"He's at Camp," she said, "We'll see him today."
"Did he have any luck? I mean, with the search for Pan?"
Aurora fidgets with her layers of necklaces, the way she does when she's worried nowadays.
"You'll see," she said but she didn't explain.
