Ruhi reached her destination, a place that provided her with the comfort and solace she needed to feel. On the top hill of the mountain on the outskirts of Mumbai, away from the city rush. It was the place her Dada and Bhaiyu introduced to her when she was 13. It was their usual place from where they could see the whole city lights and get a clear view of the night sky, which was covered with twinkling stars.
She laid down on the stone looking up at the sky, as a small smile crept on her lips remembering the day from the past...
12-year-old Ruhi sat in her room sulking all alone. She knew her Dada was busy playing scholar scholar role, and her Bhaiyu was busy with his music. While the little bean of their house... he was just 6, too small to play with her or listen to her and way too much of Mumma's boy, always sticking with her like glue.
She failed her recent class test, and her father blasted her and took away her privileges without any ounce of mercy. So the only source of entertainment left in her little life was her elder brothers, but they were behaving like some sort of creatures she didn't wish to put a name to them!
She laid down on the bed as angry tears rushed into her eyes. Her summer vacation would start tomorrow, which meant she would definitely die of boredom at such a young age without experiencing anything adventurous. She wiped her tears furiously...she was no crybaby!
Rudra and Abhay, who entered her room, saw the move and guilt washed over them. They had been facing troubles of their own for the past few weeks, which meant they didn't get enough time to spend with their Princess...they were in for a good groveling session!
Ruhi saw them coming and buried her face into the pillow...she was angry!
Both brothers sat on different sides of the bed with Ruhi lying between them. Rudra tugged at her hand, but she shrugged it off. Abhay poked her arm, and she shrugged that off too!
The brothers looked at each other...the twin connection activated!
"Humari Princess humse naraz hai?" Abhay commented, poking her again.
"Bhut!" Ruhi mumbled against the pillow, making them smile.
"Toh ab aap humse baat bhi nahi karengi Princess?" Rudra asked gently, pulling her closer.
Ruhi automatically kept her head on his lap, burying her face in his midriff... a pure dismiss!
Abhay sighed, "Sorry na bacha. Tujhe pata hai meri life mai kya bawal chalu hai pehle se. It's just I didn't get time aur..." he trailed off as Ruhi sat up with a start.
"Aap explain kyu kar rahe ho. I understand okay! Prr mujhe bhi toh samjho aap dono... aap dono busy ho prr mera kya? Mein ghar ke bahar bhi nahi jaa sakti, na mere pass phone hai, na tab ya TV. Aaj pura din I just studied... aur ek ghanta agar mene padha liya na toh I am sure soon I will be the next Einstein of the world." She pouted.
Rudra pulled her closer, "Sorry bacha... very sorry. Bas kuch din ruk ja, once things settle down, then we will be back to normal... please."
Ruhi looked away. She hated it when her brothers apologized for something they didn't even do. Her frustration and anger were diverted towards one person... her father! He was the reason both her brothers were facing problems in their life, though they didn't even breathe a word about it to her.
Unfortunately, she heard and saw every last conversation they had with their father! She didn't let them know about her knowledge, knowing they would lie to her or, worse, say something like 'sky is pink' and all. She was not dumb, nor did she want to see the shame in her brothers' eyes. She couldn't help but, as a 12-year-old her, started to feel resentment towards her own father!
