Maeve:
I grunt as the sand slams into my face. The clothes WICKD had given me were the worst to run in and had absolutely no protection. The pants were too stiff, the tank top was loose, and it felt like it would fly off of me.
Adjusting the duffle bag, I push myself up the sand hill, following Thomas to god knows where.
The sound of engines caught my attention, my eyes widened as I glanced back and saw multiple cars chasing us. It seemed as though the others had seen it too as their steps faltered.
"It's okay it's okay! We'll lose them in the storm!" I knew Thomas was trying to reassure us but they were getting closer to us by the second
"Thomas, do you even know where we are going? I can barely move in this sand!" Ashton cried out
Frypan pulled him down behind a raised patch of sand where the others had hidden, barely managing to muffle his squeal
Laying on my stomach I tried catching my breath but it wasn't simple seeing as sand was flying all around us.
"You, okay?" Newt whispered from my side
I took a deep breath, "I will be. Once we get out of this storm."
"Go go go." Thomas ordered, "Just stay low."
Grunting, I push myself up trying my best to do so without being seen by the soldiers who were only a couple of meters away.
I frowned as Newt stood us wincing, "Did you get hurt?"
"No, I'm fine. My leg is just sore." He threw me a quick smile but I knew he was troubled. However, I couldn't dwell on it as he gently pushed me forward, trying to catch up with the others.
"Teresa hang on, stay together," Thomas called out to the girl who started sprinting ahead.
Where was she going?
"I think we lost them!" Frypan announced
My steps were wobbly as we ran down a hill, the sand and the wind making it practically impossible to walk straight. Just as I was about to fall face first, Ashton grabbed my arm and pulled me back, "Careful cupcake."
"Thanks," I smiled
"Watch out! Where are we even going?"
"Come on Aris."
"Over here!"
Teresa had finally stopped running as she stumbled upon a structure. Taking slow steps towards what I figured out was windows, she peered in before going inside, "Come on!"
"Teresa wait! Don't go in there!"
I let out a sigh as she called for us, which was the only indicator that she hadn't died.
Realizing that the sand was steep, I took small steps this time hoping I wouldn't fall. I managed to make it to the bottom but ended up falling as Newt fell on top of me.
"Ouch," I groaned
Newt scurried off me, "Shit. I'm terribly sorry darling."
Pulling me up I breathed out a laugh, "It's ok. You're good."
A light caught my attention and I realized that Minho was now holding a flashlight shining it around us, "Where the fuck are we?"
"We gotta go," Thomas said, ignoring Minho's question.
Does he not get tired?
I glared at him, "What the fuck. Can we at least catch our breath?"
"We gotta keep moving."
