Maeve:
A kick to my back wasn't how I expected to wake up. "I swear you can sleep through anything," Minho grumbled.
Newt shoved his foot away from me, "You kick her again and I'll knock you out."
"Alright, I'm sorry but seriously we're moving come on. I've been trying to wake you up for the past 10 min."
Sitting up, I glanced around seeing the rest of us already awake and packing—all except for Teresa.
"Hey, she's asleep too so what are you kicking me for princess?"
"For shucks sake," Minho groaned completely ignoring the fact that I called him princess. As he headed in her direction, I pulled at his pant leg.
"Nope, I'll wake her up since apparently, you don't know how to wake girls up, or anyone for that matter," I mumbled the last part under my breath.
Turning around, I pecked Newt on the forehead. "Pack my bag for me?"
He smiled, " Sure sweetheart."
But there was no need for me to get up anymore, as Teresa had already woken up at some point.
At least she didn't get kicked in the back.
"Alright, we gotta go," Thomas said as he swung his bag on his shoulder.
And so continued the journey of walking non-stop, just racing with the sun to get to the mountains that seemed to grow further by the step.
Not to mention the fact that our water supply was finished which wasn't great considering my throat was dryer than the sand we were walking on.
As the sun set, fatigue weighed heavily on our legs. Each step felt like a massive task, and soon we found ourselves unable to walk any further. With the sky barely lit, we exchanged weary glances, silently acknowledging our shared exhaustion. There was no point in pushing ourselves, we had no choice but to set up camp in the middle of nowhere void of boulders, rubble, or any resemblance of shelter.
Discarding my bag, I settled on squishing myself against Newt's side. "How's your leg holding up?"
"It's fine," he whispered
"Sure?"
"Yeah."
"Want a painkiller?"
"...Alright."
Fishing one out of my duffle bag, I dropped it in his hands, "You're gonna have to dry swallow though. We don't have any more water."
"That's fine."
---
I jolted awake as Teresa shook my shoulder. "What? What is it?" I mumbled before my words trailed off at the sight of something I never thought I would see again.
Lights.
"Guys look. See that?" Thomas asked once everyone was awake, "It's lights."
Really? I thought they were stars.
"We made it," Frypan exhaled, but the happiness was short-lived as a crack of thunder roared behind us.
I flinched as the sound of thunder grew louder, this time accompanied by lightning.
"Let's go," Thomas mumbled patting Newt on the shoulder. "Come on!"
