Morning warmed into noon.
The young man realized he was no longer naked. Hadn't his new lover removed all his clothes last night? Or was last night just a dream?
He got up. This wasn't the old Utopia dorm attic, nor his room. It wasn't Mingi's apartment either. The man searched for someone slightly younger than him. But around the dilapidated bed was only a small nightstand and a breakfast laid out.
"Mingi," Yunho called weakly. There was no answer. Instead, an elderly woman, still agile in her movements, appeared.
"Ah, you're awake? Please have breakfast first," the woman replied, not answering his question.
Yunho felt no need to smile or be friendly. "Did you see Mingi?" he asked the woman, who was about to start opening the curtains of the old room.
"The young master has already left." She paused for a moment, focusing on the curtains. "He went to the airport early this morning. He asked me to tell you to have breakfast after you woke up," the woman said, forcing a frail smile.
"Airport?" Yunho ignored the woman's smile.
The old woman still wore her frail smile, which, if it weren't so presumptuous, might have seemed terrifying to Yunho, who was not easily friendly with strangers. "Didn't you know? Master Mingi is going to America this morning." And with that, the woman left the ancient room.
"America?" Yunho looked at the old alarm clock next to his breakfast. Eleven thirteen. Damn! It was already noon. "Eh?" He looked at a piece of paper under the sandwich for his breakfast. He unfolded it and found the handwriting of the man who had held him warmly last night:
Hi!
Not a very romantic opening line, he thought.
Well, I've said it before that I'm not the kind of man who easily shows his feelings. I even chose to place this farewell letter under a sandwich because I knew one thing that would always catch your attention is food, hehehe.
Okay, I'm sure you're not even smiling at my lame joke right now. I hope that's purely because of my bad joke, not because of my departure.
I didn't tell you last night. You were too busy moaning, we didn't have time to talk, and besides, I didn't know where to start. And I thought I would be a very bad man if I ruined our memories from last night.
I'm leaving. Maybe Mrs. Oh already told you? America. That's about ten thousand kilometers from Seoul, if I'm not mistaken. My father asked me to continue his business there. It's an old request I never considered before because Utopia was my life. But it turns out that I was something that needed to go if I wanted Utopia to stay alive.
Irony, huh? Hahaha.
Ah, I'm sure you're getting tired of my jokes.
But thank you for continuing to love me, no matter how bad my jokes are.Don't think I'm playing with you. I was sincere when I said I loved you too. Well, if you think about it, it is indeed hard to believe. I've been obsessed with Seonghwa hyung for the past seven years. And to suddenly fall in love with you overnight?
But I swear! This is my heart's doing! It really is mischievous! Huh!
Ah. Forget it. I’m not asking you to wait. But if you want to wait, I promise I will come back. I'm serious. I will return.
I love you.
The man who made you moan his name last night
SONG MINGI
P.S. Don’t try to chase me to the airport unless you really want to watch planes—planes flying around the runway. My flight leaves at eight in the morning, hehehe.
Yunho was silent.
Something was crackling in his chest. He didn't know whether it was broken or hesitant. But he forced a smile.
"I will wait for you, Mingi."
