Chapter 14,"Masquerade Ball."

A week later.

It's like a bee hive.
All the busy-bees flying to and fro around the hive with a job to do. Not to mention all the annoying wasps flowing from their own hives into this one.

This was Kokichi's analogy to the current events.It was time for the ball the Royal Families were fretting about for a while.

The ball to introduce the public to the engagement between the heirs to the Four Directions and to celebrate the upcoming marriage ceremonies. It was late evening ,maybe around 4 pm.

Kokichi,dressed in his formal attire,stood by a window with his arms crossed,watching all the nobles from the different kingdoms file into the castle of the East. He was situated in the ballroom where the event would take place.

Around him were servants running back and forth,ensuring all the refreshments were plated correctly, all the musicians were stationed where they needed to be, and so on and so forth.

The purple haired prince watched on with a hint of bitterness in his eyes.All the commotion really irritated him.He could be loud when he wanted to be,but for this late in the day,he just wanted to be around family and friends,not the entirety of the noble population of each kingdom.

None of his similarly aged peers were around in the ballroom with him,not even his beloved Shuichi.It was just him,the servants,his mother, and Kaede's mother, the East Queen. These two ladies were directing any and every action each servant took.

Things had to be perfect for this ball. It would be mere minutes before some of the most important people,under royalty, from each kingdom entered this room.

"Okay,all heirs are dressed and ready. All music,all the refreshments.Have we increased security?"

Kaede's mother pulled her fingers through her hair in a panicked manner, terribly nervous about the day's agenda.

"Calm yourself,Kagame.Everything will go according to plan."

Kokichi's mother reassured,resting a comforting hand on her friend's shoulder.They had gotten close during the past week,so did every other parent.Why?They were going to be family through marriage soon,why not treat one another as brothers and sisters?

"You're right,Kairi.Its just because I haven't held such an important event since my daughter's birth.Things will be fine."

Kagame sighed deeply,closing her eyes for a moment.Kairi,Kokichi's mother,laughed quietly at her friend's worried state,though she understood why she was in such a state.Kairi herself was a small bit nervous.

Kokichi watched their interaction from afar.He was already irritated,and watching the queens make a big deal over such a useless event... made his blood boil.

"Your Highness?"

The South prince quickly turned his head to a nearby voice that uttered his title.It was a female servant with table cloths in her arms.She had a worried look on her face.

"Hm?What is it?"

Asked Kokichi,trying to sweeten his already sour expression.

"You look awfully tense.Is something not to your liking?"

The servant asked.
Her genuine worry calmed the troublemaker.Atleast someone was worried about the heirs to their respective thrones.

"Everything is perfect!The decoration,the atmosphere,I couldn't ask for anything better.Im just...alittle fatigued." ,Kokichi mumbled, "Maybe I'll go rest before the actual ball begins."

"That's a great idea.Dont forget to bring your mask.It should've been placed in your room already."

The servant smiled.
After a quick bow to her superior,she hurried away to continue with her tasks.Though annoyed,there was little Kokichi could do.Everything was almost set,the people were here. It was just him and the royal families that needed to get into place.
