"Huff...huff...huff...stay quiet unless you have a death wish!" I snapped in annoyance. Sally glanced at me apologetically. I took furtive steps to not get attention to myself and my partner behind me. "Are these even clothes? This corset is gonna choke me to death any moment!" Whispered Sally. I agree with Sally on this here. We are in the maids' apparel that did no good except get us in here. Crash. The white porcelain vase gets knocked over by Sally's elbow when she attempts to squirm in her corset. The sound alerted one of the guards. We hear footsteps coming towards us. "What's going on over there? Show yourself." He called out as he started walking towards us. Shit, we're done for, Lily told us to be cautious but, we haven't even stepped for no longer than ten minutes and we got caught by one of the guards. I didn't want to dirty my clothes this time, but a shame we have to silence him. 'What do we do?' mouthed Sally with her eyes widened. I gestured that we need to knock him off by slicing through the air near my neck with my thumb. Sally nodded seriously. "Who are y-?" He was cut off when I slowly reached behind my back and swiftly pulled out my dagger hidden in my dress and charged towards him before he pulled out his sword from its sheath, and easily hit the back of his neck with the hilt of my dagger. At the same time trying not to make much of a bloody scene. His unconscious body fell to the floor with a thud. We used both of our strengths to drag his body out of site. Dusting off the imaginary dust from our hands, we proceeded to the palace treasury. Taking careful labored steps this time, not risking another exposure.
The air around me was thick and humid, and hair stuck at the nape of my neck. The sooner I get out of here the better. My stomach twists in knots in hunger. I swept my gaze around the corridor. The treasury was concealed somewhere in the throne room according to the map in hand which was given by Lily. The throne room was huge and beautiful, at the far end was a magnificent throne that shone in the moonlight. Not good. Not evil, but great. It was made with the rarest marble found in all of Armedale and embedded with the biggest emeralds the miners could find. A dark velvet cushion covered the seat. It felt as if it was watching, looking down on me, even though it was a lifeless object. It was intimidating. Everybody in the castle was busy preparing for the festivities. So the servants scarcely come around the throne room at night. Our footsteps echoed in the empty throne room. Once we got close to the throne, I stepped behind it in the little space it had and placed my locket in the little shape carved out in the center.
As soon as it was placed the throne slid forward and gave way to a crypt below. It was pitch dark. I took out a small pocket knife out of my waistband and threw it down the crypt to figure out its depth. I listened for some sound of the pocketknife falling to the ground a beat later a small tap echoed. It's not that deep I thought. "You wait here Sally and keep watch." I instructed. "Okay. Be quick." She nodded. I jumped down and landed on my toes with little effort. "All clear" My voice echoed. It seemed to be hollow. Darkness had swallowed the crypt whole. I took one of my glowing orbs out and rub it on my hand it illuminated the whole room. The walls of the crypt were adorned with intricate carvings of the insignia of the royal family and many words from the ancient language of the empire. There were words I could not make out but I am sure it had something to do with the fall of the Marella Dynasty.
I trekked my way to the end of the crypt. A white box sitting on an elongated table. I lifted the lid and looked at the contents of the box. There it was. The Wiclite. The object of power. It was the size of my fist, yet it held a meaning bigger than that of the mountains. The only thing that will do me justice. Ancient writings were engraved upon it. It was unnaturally round with no crookedness and black as onyx. A perfect sphere. I picked it up with careful hands. Placed it in my pocket. With relief, I replaced the lid on the box. All done. The only thing left is to get out and eat Archies mouth-watering meat pies.
