Alexandra was texting her friends on the group chat. They were talking about the vacations they were going on over the summer, and how they planned on getting summer jobs. She didn't participate too much in the conversation, for she wasn't doing either of those things. Her parents usually gave her any amount of money she needed, at least for the time being, and they were not planning any vacations, especially after moving. So she just sat and watched the conversation move by, making a comment whenever someone says something funny, or makes a spelling error she could laugh at.

She sat on a swing they had set up on the tree. It was a two seater, and was one of her favorite places when it was hung up at their old house. It was roughly noon and the sun was beating down on her, making her feel a sense of comfort that she had not felt since she got her two days ago. She was having a rough time adjusting to a new neighborhood and a new house. The woods freaked her out, the lights from her neighbors porch kept her awake at night, and there was always a dog yapping. And she didn't really like dogs.

She heard somebody talking nearby, so she looked up from her phone in the direction of their sidewalk. There were two women there, a girl who had a tupperware container in her hands, and an older woman who had a small basket. Alexandra, curious as to why they were walking toward their front door, got up and started towards their direction, keeping an eye on them while also keeping a little bit of distance in case they were attempting something.

She watched as the two women walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. Since no one was home, Alexandra knew no one would answer, so she walked up to them, trying to seem confident, although she was nervous from not knowing who these people were.

"Hi," Alexandra said, startling the older woman as she turned in her direction, the younger one turned as well, not nearly as startled as her older counterpart. "What do you need?"

"Oh!" The older woman laughed and put her hand on her heart. "My apologies, you startled me a little. I am Mrs. McGowan and this is my granddaughter Paislee. We wanted to introduce ourselves to the people who just moved in," Mrs. McGowan said while nodding her head to the younger girl next to her.

"Yeah, that's my family. My mom and dad are... busy right now though. Sorry," Alexandra did not want to admit she was home alone, she hardly knew these people, and although the gesture seemed nice enough she didn't know whether she could trust them or not right away.

"Oh, well then." Mrs. McGowan turned to her daughter, who shrugged. "Please take these, Paislee made them, and let your parents know they are from house eight. We are right across the street. Also, if you have any questions about the area do not be afraid to come by and ask. I am always there." She handed the containers from both her and her daughter to Alexandra, who was surprised at how heavy they were. She had to hold them with both hands against her chest to prevent herself from dropping them.

"There's broccoli n' cheddar soup in one container n' homemade cookies in the other," Paislee spoke for the first time. She looked about Alexandra's age, and had long black locs that were tied back into a high ponytail. Her eyes were a dark chocolate brown, and she wore a white t-shirt under a pair of overalls. According to Mrs. McGowan, she was the one who made the food.

"Well, uhm, thanks. I'll go give this to my parents right now." Alexandra said. The two women waved goodbye as Alexandra went back to her house.

She put the food on the kitchen counter beside the stove and put a note on the whiteboard on the fridge saying what it was and where they were from. After that she was lost on what to do next. She didn't want to go back outside, but she also knew if she was inside her parents would think she was all day and would make her go out again. Ultimately she decided she'd had enough time outside, and would deal with it when her parents got home. That was, until the doorbell rang. She looked over and saw Paislee in the window.

Curious, Alexandra opened the door for her. She smiled.

"Hey girl, long time no see amirite," Paislee joked. Alexandra smiled a little.

"Yeah I guess not. What uh, bring you back so soon?"

"Oh, you seemed cool. There's no one here around my age, well there wasn't, you're here now so I guess I can't say that much more. I was gonna walk 'round the boardwalk for a while, would ya like to come? I could show you around if you want." Paislee was very expressive when she spoke. Her facial expressions changed a lot, and she moved her hands as she spoke.

Alexandra thought about the request for a moment. She wasn't considering going out again, but Paislee seemed nice enough, and besides, her parents would probably want her to make some friends down here.

"You know what, lemme ask my mom. Can you just wait here a sec?"

"Yeah, I've got time."

Alexandra went inside to grab her phone that she had put down in the kitchen. She opened up her chats to her mom.

Alex(andra): Hey mom, I think I'm going to go down to the boardwalk for a bit after all

Mom: Okay sweetie just be safe okay?

Alex: Alr mom, love u

Mom: Love you too

Alexandra smiled, she was excited to go down there for the first time, even if that wasn't her original plan. She went back to the front door where Paislee was still waiting, and opened the door.

"Hey girl, did your mom give you th' okay?" Paislee asked.

"Yeah, though I don't know all the good spots. You're gonna have to uh, show me around a bit." Alexandra smiled and stepped outside. The two of them started walking down the path towards the boardwalk.
