IT'S A a quiet night on november 6th, 1996-- that is, if you aren't in the wheeler household.
"do you hear that? listen..." the younger sister of mike and nancy wheeler, holly, can be heard speaking quietly to her friends.
"...something is coming...something hungry for blood..."
the other three teenagers lean in, captivated. the group consists of megan dahlia, zachary rutherford, and matthew rigby, holly's best friends.
"what is it?" meg asks, looking at holly for a clue as to what could be next in their story.
"it can't be vecna, can it?" matty looks at zach to his left. "we killed him already, didn't we?"
"three hours ago..." zach murmurs, studying their board. holly looks up through her eyelashes, her stare flicking around the table from one person to the next.
"hol?" matty raises an eyebrow. the suspense is killing each of them. there's a moment's pause that lasts an eternity, and then holly reaches beneath the table and slams two bats onto the board.
"demobats!" holly cries, tossing the dice at zach. he jumps, clearly startled out of his thoughts.
"what was that for?" he pauses, "wait, demobats?those are the things that are hungry for blood?" matty raises his eyebrows in agreement and they all turn their attention to holly, who is grinning.
"why are you smiling like you know something we don't?" meg's eyebrows furrow here; the three of them send confused looks to each other.
"you just got distracted. demobats signal the coming of something worse. in the face of a threat, you never get distracted." holly raises her eyebrows, "look at the board."
here we see the four members of holly wheeler's party turn their gazes down to their dnd board. and on it we see a creature who, at a glance, might have once been human, until we look closer. in tandem with the four players, we see that the creature that snuck onto the board is anything but human.
