episode 128 — the black organization: one billion yen robbery case
Swiping through the images displayed on her tablet, Suzume's brows furrowed together as she tried to connect the dots. She had been asked to consult on a case in England, which was quite rare for her, but she took the request since it was her parents who recommended her to the police in London. Nothing she could do about that.
The police there were very thorough, too. They taped their conversations with their suspects, took photos of almost everything at the crime scenes, and even submitted notes to her about their thoughts and theories.
Now, she wouldn't normally work on something as serious as this in public, but she had promised Ran that they would hang out together after Kogoro got done with his business at the bank. Why she had to come along to the bank for that, Suzume had no idea, but she raised no complaints since it got her out of her house, which she was sure had been searched through in the past three weeks.
It hadn't been easy to notice at first, but when she did, she wasn't the happiest girl on the block. She went through the entire house, searching for any kind of bugs that could have been left behind. She found none, so there were either no bugs, or they were just too well hidden for her to find them.
She sighed and decided to put her tablet away to take a quick break from the case. She looked up and saw one of the tellers, Hirota Masami, constantly looking at her watch. Suzume's brows furrowed at that.
"Thanks for waiting, Suzume," Ran said as she and Kogoro went over to her.
"Was the money for detective services deposited?" Suzume asked.
"Yes! Plenty of it!" Kogoro grinned. "It's even too much that it filled up the entire book."
Suzume smiled. "How about we get some lunch before Ran and I go off to do our own thing?" she suggested.
Kogoro liked the idea. "It's been a while since I've had a drink during the daytime," he said.
"Dad." His shoulders slumped at Ran's call. "We're talking about lunch."
"I'll go get this savings book changed for a new one," he said before walking off.
Suzume and Ran exchanged exasperated looks.
A hopeless drunkard he is sometimes...
"The counter is..." He paused when he saw Masami, who was once again looking at her watch. "Miss."
"Yes!" She was startled at his call.
"Would you help this handsome and attractive man change his savings book to a new one?"
Oh, I feel bad for her now...
"I'm very sorry, sir. Please get yourself a number over there, then please have a seat and wait your turn," she informed him.
He laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "Right, we should all wait our turn," he agreed.
"Yes."
When Kogoro went off to get a number, Suzume made her way over to Masami. "Hey," she said, smiling.
Masami smiled. "Oh, Kudo-san!"
"Are you alright?" Suzume asked. "You looked pretty concerned and have been looking at the clock periodically."
Masami let out a nervous chuckle. "I'm a bit busy, so I was hoping that it would be lunch break soon," she said before getting up. "I'll see you later, Kudo-san." She put up a sign and walked off.
