i. something in the orange tells me we're not done

Despite what several people may think, Ran and Suzume do have arguments. Nothing too major, usually over little stuff. One of the common ones that Kogoro has had the misfortune of listening to more often than not is the fact that Suzume gets sick from overwork and exhaustion a lot.

Ran knows that Suzume doesn't do it on purpose, but it does get frustrating when Suzume does the same things over and over again and expects different results.

"Isn't that the definition of insanity?" Ran had asked one time, sitting at Suzume's bedside at the Kudo home. "Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result?"

Suzume had chosen to remain silent at that, which told Ran that her guess was correct.

Now, don't get her wrong, Ran absolutely hated it when Suzume was sick, but she always found those times to be a little...special, she supposed. Suzume didn't let many people see her when she wasn't feeling her best, but Ran was one of the rare few that did.

ii. just wanna be yours

It had come out of nowhere, but Ran supposed that she was twelve when she realized she had a crush on her best friend. However, due to all of those books she read in the Kudo library where it would ruin their friendship if she even considered confessing, she kept it to herself and remained content at being Suzume's best friend.

Not many people had known about her attraction to her friend. It was really just her parents and Sonoko who knew. They were constant pillars of support when Suzume would be oblivious, when Suzume entered that cursed relationship at fourteen, and when Suzume was beaten (literally and metaphorically) by said relationship.

Ran had never felt pain like the pain she felt when she saw Suzume in that hospital room, her parents hovering over her worriedly and beating themselves up for not being there for their daughter.

It hadn't been until she lost and subsequently regained her memories during the incident with Kazato that Ran realized how easily she could lose Suzume. Sure, somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew that Suzume could get injured on cases, but it had never truly registered that she could die. It only registered when Ran saw Kazato try to stab Suzume during the confrontation at Tropical Land, a place with so many happy memories for Ran and Suzume both.

So, after a couple of hours of gathering her courage and convincing her parents to let her go to Suzume's house, she made the first move and planted her lips on Suzume's.

iii. i feel something so right, doing the wrong thing

It had always been apparent to Ran that Suzume's housemate, Midorikawa Hikaru, held affection for Suzume. She wasn't blind like her girlfriend could be. In fact, she saw that affection in the eyes of several people in Suzume's life. And, strangely enough, it didn't bother Ran one bit. She thought that it should, but it didn't.

After his reappearance in Suzume's life, Pierrot-san has been dedicated in ensuring Suzume's protection, even against the Black Organization Ran was informed of. And he was the first to get the guts to approach Ran about his feelings for Suzume.
