movie 8 — magician of the silver sky

Her footsteps echoed in the stairwell as she pushed open the door to the roof, squinting as she looked around. Using her Flame sensing ability, she took off towards the heli-pad on the roof, where she saw the person she was looking for standing in the middle of the large H.

She smirked as the wind tousled her short hair. "I think it's about time we end this game, don't you?" she called out. "Mr. Thief?"

The man smirked and turned towards her. "Yeah," he agreed mildly. "It's already too dark to play hide and seek." He grabbed his jacket and ripped it off, taking off his disguise entirely to reveal himself as Kaito Kid. His white cape billowed in the wind as he stared at her with a smirk. "Meitantei."

Suzume's smirk widened in response.

10 hours earlier...

On a sunny day in Beika, Suzume sat in the Mouri Detective Agency in Kogoro's chair as he went over his current job request.

"I see," the man hummed, looking over the sheet of paper in his hands. "So this is the advanced notice sent by Kid?"

"Yes," actress Maki Juri confirmed. "This morning, I found it on the balcony of my apartment along with a large bouquet of roses."

Suzume scrunched up her nose slightly. Still a flirt.

"Romeo, Juliet, Victor, Bravo. While the 26 letters soar around, I am going to steal your Jewel of Destiny. Kaito Kid," Kogoro read the notice. "And there is a playing card cut in half."

Ran set the tray of drinks onto the table and handed them out. "Please enjoy it."

"Thank you," Yaguchi Masayo, Juri's manager, thanked as she took one of the cups. Juri took one as well. "What do you think, Mouri-sensei?"

"Well... What is the Jewel of Destiny?"

"He means this one." Juri pulled out a small jewelry box and opened the lid, revealing a small deep blue jewel bordered by smaller, clear gems.

"It's beautiful," Ran murmured in awe, now standing at Suzume's side. She quieted and looked away with an embarrassed flush when Kogoro gave her and Suzume a look.

Suzume just deadpanned.

"This is the star sapphire, right?" Kogoro asked.

"Yes." Juri smiled. "The three crisscrossed streaks on the surface represent faith, hope, and fate. It's called the Jewel of Destiny."

"Oh, I see. It really lives up to its name," Kogoro said, leaning back after taking a closer look at the jewel.

"It comes from Josephine, who loved sapphires deeply," Juri explained. "That's why I used this sapphire for this play."

"Play?"

"I know it," Ran said, moving to stand behind her father. "The newly opened Universal Theater in Shiodome is now staging the theater play 'Josephine'."

"Josephine?"

"Josephine was the first wife of Napoleon," Suzume explained to the confused detective. "She was also known for her love of roses, which would explain the bouquet you received with the notice."

Juri nodded with a smile. "That's right. You know a lot."

Kogoro laughed. "She knows a lot of this kind of boring stuff."
