☆ Sebastian's P.O.V ☆
"The monsters have been getting stronger. We need a new plan on how to deal with them."
I looked back up, realizing Darius wasn't paying attention at all. He was looking out the window with a puzzling face, deep in thought. Irritated, I tried to get his attention.
"Sir? You must listen to me. This is very important," I sighed.
"Don't you think it's weird?"
I looked at him confused with the sudden question.
"What?"
He looked back to me, a serious look in his eyes. "That she survived."
He was talking about Penelope. We were on the way to her home right now. Ever since we heard the news about her trying to kill herself and survived, Darius has been suspicious about the whole thing. People tend to survive poison sometimes, so why did it bother him so much?
"I don't see how that is weird. Many people have survived being poisoned before," I sighed.
"Then how about the fact that ever since she woke up we have had more monster attacks, and that they have gotten stronger," he replied.
"It's all just a coincidence. I highly doubt some girl is the reason for the monsters."
"It seems to be more than just a coincidence Sebastian. We need to keep an eye on her family. After I agreed to marry Penelope instead of Seraphina, all of this happened."
I remember when that happened. Darius was furious that Zaru refused to let him wed Seraphina. Darius has been in love with her since they were children, he barely paid any attention to her sister. Penelope knew they loved each other, she was even against the marriage.
The only reason Darius finally agreed to wed Penelope, was that he could have Seraphina as a mistress. I understand why they didn't want Seraphina to be the future queen, but to use her own sister?
"You were a fool to agree to marry her in the first place. All it does is make the rumors seem true," I groaned.
Darius has many rumors going around that he was a womanizer, specially for younger ones.
"Whatever keeps the other girls away from me, the better. All I want is Seraphina," he snapped. He looked up at me with an intense glare, "She has always been mine."
His obsession with Seraphina never surprised me. The only thing I never understood is why he thought I loved her. She was a manipulative woman, who flirted with anyone she saw. So when she tried to flirt with me, my brother saw it as betrayal.
"I have said it before and I will say it again, she is nothing to me. All I care about is the safety of my land and my people," I snapped.
He looked back out the window as we rode along. I still don't understand why he asked me to come. I know he hates me, ever since I was born. The other reason he doesn't openly show it, is because my knights and I defeat the monsters. He needs me.
"I could ask Zaru for help defeating the monster when I see him," Darius sighed.
"That is a great idea. I will wait for you in the carriage. I see no reason why I must go inside with you."
"That's fine. Maybe if I'm lucky, Penelope will beg her father to cancel everything."
"Why can't you? You are the prince," I scoffed.
"You know why, father will be furious. He thinks Penelope is a perfect choice," he frowned.
Of course she would be. She was always an extremely intelligent child, perfect at being a lady. Not only that, but her magic was considered extremely powerful. Powerful enough to be a priestess. That's the only reason Father wants his marriage. Marrying the most powerful mage will strengthened the bonds and even defeat the monsters for good.
Seraphina was powerful too, but she lacked the intelligence. She had many enemies and most of them were connected to the King. Darius never cared about any of this. Maybe because he was just as cruel as she was.
"At least you still have the option to have Seraphina by your side. Father could have easily said no," I shrugged.
Darius's frown hardened as he stared at the window. His teeth clenched, angry at his father.
I looked up to see the Warlock Manor coming into view as we approached. It still looked the same back when we visited as kids. The coachmen stopped at the door, coming to help Darius step out of the carriage.
"Wait here. It won't take long," he ordered.
I watched as he walked through the doors with their butler, before he was completely out of sight.
Looking out the window, I could see the beautiful gardens. The roses were in full bloom and the cherry blossom trees were so beautiful, it seemed like a dream.
Everything thing here seemed like a dream.
After waiting for what felt like an hour, I started to grow frustrated. He told me it wouldn't take long and I have other things I need to get done. I looked down to check the time when I heard a sudden crash, followed by a scream.
"My lady!! Come back here, please!"
I looked up to see a young woman with beautiful red hair, running towards me. Her face had a look of fear in her eyes, as she quickly opened the door and flew herself in.
I stared shocked before she turned around and noticed me beside her. Her violet eyes looked at me with both shock and desperation.
"My lady!"
She quickly shut the doors, before turning back to me.
"Why are you-"
Before I could finish my sentence, she quickly apologized before her lips were on mine.
"Help me."
