After morning of storm spirits, goat men, and flying, and a three murderous demigod, Jason was losing his mind.
He stood in back of the chariot with Leo and Piper, while the bald guy, Butch, handled the reins, the blond girl, Annabeth, adjusted a bronze navigation device, but it was the sandy haired Augustus that scared him a little.
Augustus was huge, like really huge, his arms were ripped and his shoulders wide, the dude was in sweatpants but looked like he could crush Jason with one glance. His hair was slightly long, reaching his nape and falling on his forehead. He stood infront of the trio with his arms crossed, his gaze so blank it scared Leo into hiding behind Piper.
They rose over the Grand Canyon and headed east, icy wind ripping straight through Jason's jacket. Behind them, more storm clouds were gathering. The chariot lurched and bumped. It had no seat belts and the back was wide open, all of them were lurching around expect Augustus who stood with his feet fixed not moving at all.
"Percy Jackson," His voice was a deep baritone, he was probably 17 or 18 by how he looked, "What do you know about that name?"
"N-n- nothing!" Leo stuttered out moving closer to Jason.
"Gus, let's talk later," Augustus glanced back at Annabeth at her words, retreating a step back and not asking anymore questions.
Jason finally spoke up, "Where are we going?"
"A safe place," Annabeth said. "The only safe place for kids like us. Camp Half-Blood."
"Half-Blood?" Piper was immediately on guard. She hated that word. She'd been called a half-blood too many times—half Cherokee, half white —and it was never a compliment. "Is that some kind of bad joke?"
"She means we're demigods," Jason said. "Half god, half mortal."
Annabeth looked back. "You seem to know a lot, Jason. But, yes, demigods. My mom is Athena, goddess of wisdom. Butch here is the son of Iris, the rainbow goddess and Augustus, son of Hermes, god is travellers and messengers."
Leo choked. "Your mom is a rainbow goddess?"
"Got a problem with that?" Butch said.
"No, no," Leo said. "Rainbows. Very macho."
"Butch is our best equestrian," Annabeth said, glancing at Augustus as he stiffened, remembering some other equestrians they'd had. "He gets along great with the pegasi."
"Rainbows, ponies," Leo muttered.
"I'm gonna toss you off this chariot," Augustus warned.
"Demigods," Piper said. "You mean you think you're ... you think we're—"
Lightning flashed. The chariot shuddered, and Jason yelled, "Left wheel's on fire!"
Piper stepped back. Sure enough, the wheel was burning, white flames lapping up the side of the chariot. The wind roared. Piper glanced behind them and saw dark shapes forming in the clouds, more storm spirits spiraling toward the chariot—except these looked more like horses than angels.
She started to say, "Why are they—"
"Anemoi come in different shapes," Annabeth said. "Sometimes human, sometimes stallions, depending on how chaotic they are. Hold on. This is going to get rough."
"I'll deal with it," Augustus stepped forward, clicking his ankles together as wings sprouted out his shoes and then reaching for his bracelet that turned into a huge bronze spear. With a nod at Annabeth he soared up in the sky, rushing towards the dark figures.
