Breakout Day

It was Breakout Day's anniversary. Esther didn't know why people celebrated this day, as it was the exact opposite of something you should celebrate. Esther could recall Breakout Day in vivid detail. She remembered absolutely everything. After all, how could she not? This was the day that she and her friends, along with most of the world, had to go into hiding from Them.

It was raining that day. Esther loved the rain. Whenever the sky darkened and the sounds of those tiny water droplets hit the ground, Esther would bolt outside. However, none of her friends liked these wet spells. Connor had told her that she would get a cold if she stayed in the rain for too long. Esther never listened to him though. Connor never went outside, so of course he would say that. And Esther told Connor those exact words many times.

"Though," Esther said nowadays, "Maybe I should have listened to Connor just that once."

As Esther gathered damp flowers from the shrubbery, she heard Aiden turn on the TV. Well, it was PROBABLY Aiden. Aiden always turned on the telly when he had nothing else to do. Esther thought of the TV as a good invention too, but couldn't Aiden just read once in a while? Though, Esther probably knew the answer, and that was no. For all he called Esther stupid, at least she had written comprehension skills.

The news on the TV sounded slightly interesting, and Esther peeked in through the window to get a closer look. She couldn't QUITE hear the TV clearly, but she could see it clearly.

A picture of a boy smiling. Well, that wasn't very interesting. The smile was a bit... off, though. Oh, and now a video of a girl with that exact smile. Down to every last tooth, they looked exactly the same. The video showed someone getting close to that smiling girl, and...

Esther wished she had never looked in the window. What she saw was horrifying. It was so much that most of it had to be blurred, but you could still tell what was going on. The girl began to screech at the person, and grabbed a hold of their face and began to gnaw on it with razor sharp teeth. The person's face was mangled. She stared at the camera, and hissed, before running full speed at it, and the camera powered off.

Esther was petrified. She idly thought of what she do if she was in that situation and she meant to survive.

She turned around, and saw that smile right in front of her. Those razor sharp teeth. Esther began to scream, but then They grabbed her mouth.
