There was always the idea that L, being the most important detective of the century, was almost like a human machine destined exclusively to solve cases that no one else could. His existence was perceived as an enigma, so distant that contacting him was practically impossible, unless he needed someone else's collaboration to solve the cases. However, those who really knew him know that he remains a human being like everyone else.

I'm going to share a story to which I have a special fondness, and I don't care who ends up reading this. I'm referring to Wammy's House, a place so hidden that it would be impossible for an outsider to know it. I, Near, as L's successor, can assure you that he was someone capable of adapting to circumstances and that he was much more than the world could understand.

All of this happened in 2002, after L, with the help of Naomi Misora, managed to solve the BB murders in Los Angeles. Naomi had already returned to work since September, and after the case, she continued working as usual. But in October, another complicated case arose: a bank received a communication showing that more than 10 important employees had been kidnapped by a criminal group. They were seeking to obtain more than a million dollars for these people, warning that if their demands were not met, they would take the money and let the people die.

When Misora was notified of this crime, she initially thought it was just another criminal gang and that it would be easy to solve. The complicated part was that, in the same month, some FBI workers were assigned to other cases far from Los Angeles due to complications between governments. Despite this, she decided to stay to tackle other cases.

Upon arriving home, exhausted from searching for information about any criminal group that specialized in robbing banks, some data matched and others didn't enough. So she lay down on her bedroom bed and stared at the ceiling, remembering all the information.

"For now, we are quite few to face the magnitude of this, involving both money and lives at stake." She was genuinely worried, but she came up with an idea that she would present to her colleagues the next day.

When she was already in the conference room, surrounded by her colleagues, upon entering, she heard a voice with a synthesizer that sounded familiar to her.

When the case L and Naomi worked on ended, L still felt a deep gratitude towards Naomi. She had been the main reason the BB murder case was solved, and L wanted to do something to thank her. So L began to find time to investigate more on how to express what he felt. He would never reveal his identity openly; doing so could jeopardize the world itself, so he was very careful in that aspect. In his research, he discovered that people usually expressed their gratitude by hugging the person they felt thankful for. L wanted to experience that, but that didn't mean he would reveal who he was. The day came, Naomi and he met, so he tried what he had in mind. However, without even succeeding, Naomi threw him to the ground, causing him to fall down the stairs. L knew that what he had done didn't go well. He didn't usually communicate with people other than through computers or calls because of his duty to protect his identity, and he wasn't sure how people related to each other. Still, she helped him up.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Naomi asked.

L felt strange, so he just nodded and got up. What he was looking for was to be able to express himself properly.

Now we go back to the beginning of October, a month just as complicated as all the others due to multiple cases. L was sitting with his knees against his chest as usual, drinking coffee and eating various desserts that his butler Watari served for him. Until he noticed a communication that had been sent to the police mentioning that threat to a bank widely used by most of the United States. Digging deeper, he managed to access the FBI information, discovering that precisely the case had been taken by the agency where Naomi worked. When L realized the amount of money and lives at stake, his sense of justice wanted to take the case. So he asked the FBI agency to organize a meeting to create a new plan together with the others.

Actually, L was planning something more, something more than just solving the case. Something else invaded his mind. L began to give orders to the FBI members, starting with the conference.
