There was something about this person who strolled into the cafeteria, right before my eyes. It was as if I almost felt drawn to him. No, I thought to myself, no matter how attractive he may be, I am just not interested in men right now. Or anyone even. Thinking of my own father's heavy hand as he beat me didn't help. Maybe I simply equated all men to be evil, vying for power, control, riches, or something of that nature like my father. Maybe I had shunned them all in my mind.

The unknown male in the cafeteria was tall, with sun-kissed brown skin. His hair was straight and black in color and his bangs almost reached eye level. I wondered what color his eyes indeed were. He was a beautiful-looking man, his features well sculpted. However, something seemingly dark lingered throughout him. Something beneath the surface. I won't even dare to find out the source of that... darkness? Not evil... but just like... power.

His eyes gazed across the cafeteria, slowly scanning all the rows of tables and seats. It was as if he was searching for someone. Looking. Until his gaze turned a bit further to the right and settled upon me. Or maybe even Renor. I could not tell for certain. He gave a lazy, half-curled smile in our direction and continued walking towards the line for food. What a relief, I thought to myself.

"Oh my GOSH, Allegra, you did not tell me you knew such an attractive man. But... actually, I have never seen him before. I don't recognize him. I know our class hasn't changed much after all these years. Though who... who exactly is he?" she cried out.

"Honestly, I'm not sure," I replied. "I don't even know if I want to know who that person is." Renor gasped. "But I saw it–HE looked at you. Like right at you and smiled. As if he'd known you his whole life," she stated, almost begging me with her tone to become interested in this mysterious male.

"I know, I know. I saw. But don't you remember what I mentioned to you, about my father growing up? I think I've just sworn off men for now. Or maybe forever," I said as a sigh slipped out from me whilst tilting up my cup to sip the water inside.

Renor nodded. "I know," she stated. "I remember, it's a terrible thing. But my senses are tingling about this one. All I can say is that he has something to do with you," she uttered with a wink.

Right. As if a handsome, perhaps mysterious man, wants anything to do with me. "Maybe he will chat up Xenia– she is the most popular girl in our Naval Fleet class anyways. Plus, I have heard she is friendly," I replied. Renor laughed. Xenia was anything but friendly. A thoroughly trained warrior and strong as they come. She, however, did get along well with the men. I lost track of how many she'd dated. Probably for the best.

"Well," Renor huffed, "I think we are in for a treat with this one."

I knew she was talking about him. But what she meant exactly, I hadn't the faintest idea. I looked and saw him, carrying his tray from the food pick-up stand. He was walking over this way. Great. Anywhere but here. Please. There are so many other places you can sit. Popular people you can meet. Just leave Renor and me out of it, my thoughts cried.

He sauntered over and I noticed his black hair curled up a bit on the ends. The black hair almost looked purple, like a natural purple-black. I was curious. I hadn't seen such a unique hair color before, though it was subtle. It almost looked... otherworldly. I shuddered as the word went through my mind.

He was wearing all black, including the boots laced up to his ankle. Our High Naval Fleet black pants were tucked neatly into his boots. To his shoulders clung a black, zip-up jacket with golden linings and a peak of the training shirt underneath for physical exercise. It was hard to see, but actually, that shirt was white. Its collar subtly peaked out.
