Cayus Island was such a sight to behold. The island was encircled by numerous gray, orange, and blue clouds. I watched as they all slowly rotated around, forming a blanket of privacy.
"Our shield, to keep away prying eyes," Elias mentioned in reference to the clouds hiding the island.
We sailed through the bold hues of colorful clouds and Renor reached out, grabbing a cloud and pulling it down. It was a bright, shining blue.
"Hey! Watch it! I'm workin' here," someone said.
Renor let out a tiny gasp, dropping the cloud. The cloud sank down on the boat, suddenly turning into a male Enchanter.
He was dressed like royalty. His heavy fur coat had symbols various magic abilities, and the same orange, blue, and gray clouds patterned his shirt. He wore black pants, lined with gold trim, and no shoes. What a strange... outfit, I thought. Such luscious fabric and elegant designs, but no shoes?
The unknown Enchanter gazed suspiciously upon us, until he spotted Elias. "Brother!" he cried out. "Welcome back!"
Elias wrapped his brother into a tight hug. "Everyone, this is Soren! My brother, a fellow Elemental Enchanter. Though, he prefers wind magic and usually guards our island in the camouflage of a cloud," he said.
Soren pointed a thumb towards Elias, "Well he prefers wishy-washy water for whatever reason. Anyways, how do you do, ladies?" he asked.
I guess the brothers were more alike than different after all.
Renor held out a hand to Soren, and he fell silent. His eyes were focused on her, intently, unwavering. It was like he saw something... deep within her... that we didn't. He kept staring, silent. Finally, Renor lowered her hand awkwardly and unsure.
"Was that...perhaps... disrespectful?" she asked in a hushed whisper.
"Not at all," said Elias as he walked toward Soren, shaking his shoulder.
Soren blinked a few times and looked at his brother. "I have to go," was all he said and then vanished into the clouds.
"What exactly was that supposed to mean?" I asked.
Elias was pacing around our tiny boat, with a few steps in each area, before changing directions. "Two options," he replied. "One, he freaked a little because he rarely meets human. Or pretty girls, for that matter. Two, Soren has a talent for detecting some special powers, usually found in humans. And honestly, I am not convinced you're innocent, Renor," Elias stated.
"Nah, only Allegra has her abracadabra powers. Not me. My family is as human as they come," she replied nonchalantly as she shrugged her shoulders.
"It's not that you would be an Enchanter. You'd be a human, born with natural gifts. A rarity. You'd be... a Seer," he whispered in reply.
Renor's eyes met mine. We stared at either in shock. I walked across the boat to her. She sat down on a small seating bench, holding her face in her hands. She was staring at the wooden panels on the floor of my tiny boat.
"I'll get us moving again while you two... do that," Elias said in awkward, non-human understanding.
I rolled my eyes at him, but nodded wordlessly as he controlled the water and propelled us towards Cayus Island.
I sat beside Renor, warming her with a hug. She didn't say much, so we sat in silence together for a few minutes. We were still passing through the thick, clouded privacy shield of Cayus Island.
