𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐇𝐀𝐃 passed since the unsettling encounter with Austin at the mall, but the memory of it lingered like a dark cloud over Y/n's life. She had tried to bury herself in her music, hoping that the creative process would be a distraction, but the inspiration was proving to be elusive. She sat on her bed, her guitar resting on her lap as she strummed a few chords. The melody came easily enough, but the lyrics— those crucial words that would breathe life into the music— felt as dry and barren as the Sahara desert.Nothing seemed to flow, and every attempt she made ended in frustration.
With a groan, Y/n set her guitar aside and buried her head in her hands. She hated this feeling of stagnation, this sense that she was going nowhere, both in her music and her life. What made it worse was the constant worry that gnawed at her. Every time she thought about getting something delivered, a shiver ran down her spine at the thought of Austin being the one to show up at her door. The idea that he knew where she lived— that he could just show up unannounced— made her skin crawl. Her life had changed so much in just a few days.
She found herself withdrawing from social events, avoiding her friends because she couldn't muster the energy to put on a happy face. The depressive mood that had settled over her like a thick fog was suffocating, leaving her feeling isolated and trapped in her own mind. But deep down, Y/n knew she couldn't stay like this forever.
She couldn't let Austin's actions control her life, but pulling herself out of the darkness felt like an insurmountable task. Taking a few deep breaths, she reached for her phone, opened FriendSpace, and hesitated for a moment before pulling up Jacob's profile. He had been so kind to her, so understanding, and part of her desperately wanted to reach out to him, to tell him everything that had been weighing on her. But another part of her held back, afraid of burdening him with her problems. He had his own life, his own struggles—what right did she have to add to them?
For a moment, her thumb hovered over the chat icon, indecision warring inside her. She could picture Jacob's comforting presence, the way he seemed to understand her without needing many words. But what if he was busy? What if he didn't want to deal with her issues? She bit her lip, her mind a whirl of doubts.
But then, with a sudden burst of resolve, she groaned and threw caution to the wind. Without giving herself time to second-guess, she hastily typed out a message: "Hey, are you free?"
She watched as the text was delivered, her heart racing with nervous anticipation. Almost immediately, Jacob's icon turned green, indicating that he was online. Her eyes widened in surprise and panic. 'Oh no, he's online right now!' Her heart leaped into her throat, and before she could think twice, she let out an instinctive, childish scream and turned off her phone, tossing it onto the bed like it was something dangerous.
Y/n sat there, her heart hammering in her chest as she stared at the now-blank screen. The silence of her room was suddenly overwhelming, amplifying the thudding of her pulse in her ears. She felt a mixture of embarrassment and anxiety—why had she panicked like that? What if he thought she was being weird asking him to hang out out of the blue like this, what if he was working? What if he didn't reply at all?
But as the initial wave of panic subsided, a tiny flicker of hope sparked within her. Jacob had seen the message. He was online, which meant he was probably going to reply. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts, and reached for her phone again. Her fingers hovered over the power button, her nerves on edge as she debated whether to turn it back on and see if Jacob had responded.
Finally, she let out a slow breath and pressed the button, her screen lighting up as she reopened FriendSpace.

maybe wanted to do somethingY/n chewed on her lower lip, her anxiety building as she stared at her phone screen. The three little dots— the ones that indicated Jacob was typing— bounced up and down, taunting her with the promise of a response. Each second felt like an eternity, the silence stretching out so long that she began to wonder if she had made a mistake by messaging him at all. Her thoughts raced, doubts swirling around in her mind like a storm. What if he didn't want to talk?
What if he was only replying out of politeness? The uncertainty gnawed at her, and she felt the urge to turn off her phone again, to escape the anxiety that was bubbling up inside her. Her thumb hovered over the power button, ready to press it, when the screen flashed with a new message. She froze, her breath catching in her throat as she read Jacob's reply: "I'd love to."
The words were simple, but they hit her like a wave of relief. The tension that had coiled tightly in her chest unraveled, leaving her feeling light-headed and strangely giddy. She couldn't help the small smile that tugged at her lips, a warmth spreading through her that she hadn't felt in days.
Y/n stared at the message, rereading it several times as if to make sure it was real. Jacob wanted to talk to her and wanted to be there for her. The simple phrase carried more weight than she had anticipated, offering her a sense of comfort that had been sorely missing from her life lately. For a moment, she just sat there, her heart still pounding, but this time with something that felt a lot more like excitement than fear.
Then, with a deep breath, she started typing back, feeling a renewed sense of connection to the person who, despite everything, had managed to make her feel just a little less alone.
