Lana was at the carnival she usually went with Maddy, Cassie, BB, and Kat but she didn't know where Maddy was, Cassie was going with Mckay this year, BB didn't want to go, and Kat went with Jules, so Lana was by herself.

She was going to the Jacobs chilly stand. She hadn't seen or talked to Nate since they had gone out.

"Hey, just a small cup please." Lana said and Marsha got her a cup as she pulled out the money, "Thank you." Lana said as she took the cup of chili

She walked over and motioned nate over, "Here." She said and held out some money, "What's this for?" Nate asked, "The fires and my milkshake." She told him.

She had felt bad she didn't pay for at least half of the bill at the diner, "You don't need to give me that." Nate said, "Yes, I do. You don't have to pay for me." Lana said and pushed the money more at him.

"I'm not taking that." Nate shook his head, "Nate..." she was cut off by Mckay, "Uh-oh. Mr. Jacobs."
He walked over with Cassie, Lana hid the money.

"Oh! Stingray McKay." Cal said, Cassie went over to Lana, "Oh, my god! Lana I haven't seen you in so long." Cassie hugged her, "Where have you been?"

"Oh, uh, no where. Just around, I guess." Lana shrugged, "Are you guys, like, in a relationship?" Nate asked snapping Cassie and Lana out of their conversation.

"Nah, we're just chillin'." Mckay said, Cassie's smile drop, "Why haven't I seen you on the field?" Cal asked and handed Mckay a cup of chili.

"Uh.... Just freshmen got to earn their due, that's all." Mckay said taking a bite, "You take that attitude, you'll spend the rest of your life on the bench." Cal said

"It's really not that big of a deal, Mr. Jacobs. It's just the first season." Mckay said, Lana finished her chili and threw the cup away and then glanced at nate who was again already looking at her, "No, it is a big deal. You got one of the best slide steps I've ever seen. You've got promise. You've got talent. You're not pushing yourself hard enough." Cal said

"Dad, I think McKay's gonna be just fine." Nate said looking away from Lana, "I'm just trying to help him keep a girl like her." Cal said

"Why? It's not like we're in a relationship." Cassie glared at Mckay, "Plus, I don't even care about football."

"Whoah. It's not just football. It's life. It's about maintaining your focus. It's about putting your all into everything you do." Cal said Lana leaned towards nate, "Why is your dad so like, horny about football?" She whispered, nate smiled a little and shrugged.

"Why do you think I have the business I have? Why do think I have the family I have? The success that I have? Why do think this chili has been voted best chili in the county five years in a row?" Cal asked, "Cause you refuse to lose." Aaron, Nate's brother said from the chair behind them, they turned to him Lana bumping into nate a little. He grabbed her waist to keep her from falling.

Lana looked up at him and slid over a little, "No. It's about who you want to become in the world. I'm just lookin' out for you." Cal said and Cassie walked away, "Bye." Nate called after Cassie
"Cassie!" Mckay ran after her

Lana turned back to nate, "Would you please take the money?" She asked holding the money out going back to their conversation from before Cassie and McKay walked over, "Fine." Nate rolled his eyes and smiled

"Thank you." Lana mumbled and gave him the money before walking away.

Lana was walking around the carnival she had a stuffed animal she had won at one of the games.
She ran into Maddy who had tears in her eyes, "Maddy, are you okay?" Lana asked, "Yeah, I'm fine." Maddy said, her voice cracking as she tried to walk around her, "Maddy, what's wrong?" Lana asked

"Can you take me home?" Maddy asked, "yeah, come on." Lana said and grabbed Maddy's hand as they left the carnival.

Lana drove Maddy to her house. Maddy was crying, "Maddy, what happened?" Lana asked as the two sat on her bed, "You have to promise you won't tell anyone." Maddy said

"I promise. Whatever you say won't leave this room." Lana promised, Maddy then went on to explain everything that happened at the carnival, from how Nate told her she looked like a slut and how Nate's family didn't like her, to her and Cassie doing molly, to her confronting Nate's family and how Nate drug her away and choked her.

Lana listened to everything Maddy said as she cried, "Maddy I've told you before, you're not doing anything but hurting yourself by being with him." Lana said, she knew it sounded bad since she had been hanging out with Nate behind maddys back, but then again nothing has happened between them.

"I know." Maddy sniffed and wiped her tears, "but I love him." Maddy said and laid her head in Lana's lap.
