Maverick caught up to Jynx at the end of the street and directed her around the corner toward his car, taking her elbow and guiding her toward the street he was parked on. "Come on, I'm parked over here. I'll take you home."
"What the fuck was she thinking?" She grumbled angrily.
"I'm not sure. I've never seen Toni act like that, even in high school." Maverick shook his head. "She said she wanted to have fun." Jynx stopped and looked at him in disbelief.
"She wanted to have fun?" Her voice was high-pitched. "She scared the fucking shit out of me and then told me my girlfriend is an abusive piece of shit because she wanted to have fun?"
"Jynx, keep your voice down." Maverick looked around. It was late, and most houses were dark. "I'm not saying she thought telling you would be fun; she was really nervous about doing that and felt terrible. When she asked me to pull over early, she said she wanted to have some fun."
"She better not be becoming some sort of prank monster." Jynx folded her arms and glared at the sidewalk as she started to walk again. "Nola and Dallas deserve this bullshit. Otherwise, I'd be against it. I don't like pranks."
"Come on, you know her better than that." Maverick shook his head. "She's been under a lot of stress and having a lot of information come at her at once. I think she just had a lapse in judgment."
"Any more lapses in judgment like that, and she'll be down a friend."
"Fair enough. How do you feel about Keanna?"
"Shocked but not really surprised, if that makes sense." Jynx sighed and shivered. Maverick pulled off his jacket and dropped it on her shoulders, realizing she had probably left her coat in Raven's car. "She told me she had some anger issues that she had done classes for, and there were a few times I could tell she was furious about something and trying to hide it. She has a punching bag in the corner of her bedroom. I figured there was more than what she was telling me, and I was gonna ask you to do a quick look into things before I made a further commitment to moving in together, but I was also worried I'd look crazy if nothing came up and I went behind her back."
"I can probably find the ex if you want. Restraining orders aren't public record, but if she got an abuse prevention order, it will be. Do you want to talk to her?"
"I don't want to talk to her ex," Jynx said after a moment of silence. "I don't want to bring up that trauma again for her. But I would like to see the documents if possible."
"Okay, I'll look into it." Maverick nodded. "Toni told Dallas to fire her as wedding planner."
Jynx chuckled. "Of course she did." They reached Maverick's car, and she waited for him to unlock the doors. "I believe what she told me, and I'm going to break up with Keanna. Not because I don't believe people can change with the right support and drive to do so, but because she didn't tell me and show me that she's worked to make changes besides some anger management classes that were court-ordered."
Maverick nodded. "You do realize that her last girlfriend probably wasn't the first one she abused."
"Considering she was married and divorced before, yeah, I do."

They got back to the house, and Maverick told Jynx to go in and let him know if Antonia was there. When she came back to the door and shook her head, he grabbed his surprise for Antonia from the trunk and brought it inside. He found Jynx and Raven in the kitchen, getting food. When Raven looked up and saw what he was holding, she dropped her plate. Luckily, it didn't break because Watson darted in, grabbed her ham and cheese sandwich and ran off with it.
