Antonia, Raven, and Jynx got back to the condo just after two that afternoon. Raven had called Eric and asked him if he could arrange a spontaneous soccer practice, just saying Antonia needed Dallas out of the house for a few hours and she would explain everything later. He called her back a few hours later and said the practice was scheduled for two, and they had at least two hours.
"Alright, Toni, what do you want us to do?" Jynx asked as she looked around. The store had been busy, so they hadn't gotten a chance to talk about the next steps.
"I'm not sure." Antonia sighed as she headed to the bedroom to get the tablet. "Just give me a second." In the bedroom, she picked up the tablet and stood there with it in her hand for a moment. She needed time to think and space to clear her head, and she wasn't sure how she was going to get either. When she came out, Raven and Jynx were sitting on the couch having a quiet, intense discussion that stopped when she came out of the bedroom, and they both regarded her thoughtfully.
"Hey, Hon, we were thinking... Has Dallas been acting any differently since all this started?" Raven asked casually as Antonia sat between them.
"No." Antonia stopped to think. "He didn't."
"So he didn't seem overly affectionate or like he went out of his way to do things for you, bought gifts, nothing like that?" Jynx reached out and picked up the necklace with the diamond pendant she wore. "When did he buy you this?"
Antonia let out a sigh. "Three weeks ago. He said it was because he'd been working a lot of overtime."
"Yeah, and the last time he worked a lot of overtime, he proposed, and the time before that, he bought you the diamond tennis bracelet." Raven pointed out.
"Don't forget the earrings," Jynx added quickly.
"Right, the earrings." Raven nodded.
"So you think he buys me diamond jewelry every time he cheats?" Antonia raised her eyebrows and let her thoughts wander. Dallas was extremely good-looking. He did the firefighter calendar every year; when they went out, he would constantly get hit on, waitresses slipped him their numbers all the time, women would buy him drinks, and even when he made it clear he was with Antonia, they still tried to shoot their shot. She never considered he might take them up on things when she wasn't with him; he always made her feel like he was his whole world, and their sex life was frequent and never lacking. He was the first man she had dated and trusted long-term since Maverick. "How do we find out?"
"Do we need to? You caught him this time, and it was with your sister. Isn't that enough?" Raven reached for her hand and squeezed it gently.
"I need to know." Antonia closed her eyes and tried to swallow the lump in her throat. "I need to know how much of an idiot I was."
"Well, there's someone we know who can help, but the question is, do you want it?" Jynx grinned at her, and there was something in her smile that made Antonia's stomach clench.
"How can he help? He's in New York, and he's not even a police officer anymore." She pointed out. "Plus, he's not gonna want to help me."
"He's not in New York." Raven said quietly, "He moved to Boston three years ago, and he's a private investigator now."
"Seriously?" Antonia's eyes widened; that was the last thing she had expected to hear from them.
"Yeah, we would have told you, but you asked us to keep you in the dark about his life..."
