Emory

The officer walks up to my window, "license and registration."

"Right um, funny story, I.... Don't... Have one?" She looks at me and then in the backseat to Aria and Bentley, Aria's head on Bentley's shoulder, as she plays with her hair.

"Hm, wait here," she then walks back to her  car for a moment.

"I thought you said you had your license?!" Bentley says from the back seat.

"I said I sort of had my license, I have a learners permit." I glance up at the review mirror to see the officer walking back up.

"Alright, so here's what's going to happen, you're going to explain to me why you're illegally driving this vehicle, and tell me the truth, and that'll determine how the rest of this night is going to go." She then glances at the back seat again, before pointing at Aria. "Is she drunk?"

I don't say anything for a second, I didn't want to lie to a police officer, but I also didn't want to get Aria in trouble. "Um, maybe?....."

"Were the three of you just at the party over on lakeside?" She asks, and I glance in the mirror at Bentley, wishing maybe she could tell me what to say

"Emory was just picking us up, that's the only reason she drove without a license, please don't arrest her." She blurts out and my eyes widen in surprise. "And yes we both were drinking but it's stupid and we won't ever do it again."

The officer smiles, seemingly amused by how quickly Bentley cracked. "I'm going to let her off with a warning as well as the two of you, but I'm still going to be informing your parents. So get out of the car, lock it and I'll take you home."

When Bentley starts to move, that's when Aria seems to notice the officer. She gasps, "officer, I need to report a crime, I know who killed my sister."

Bentley and I both freeze when she says that. "excuse me?" Officer Darcy looks at her shocked and confused.

"She called me, the other girl like m'ory," she says my name the same way Georgie does. "She said her mom stole her and she thinks she's the reason EJ is dead."

A look of recognition crosses over her face and the officer nods, "okay, yes we were informed of that earlier tonight. Thank you, now let's just get you home."

What was she talking about? The other girl like me? Did she mean Erin Jones, did Evelyn's biological mother take her all those years ago? That meant she knew about the switch, but why would she take her only to turn around and kill her? It made no sense, it was all I could think about on the ride home. I felt a bit bad, sense Aria and I were going to be dropped off first, which left Bentley in the car with the officer alone and to face her parents alone. I also wasn't too excited to face our parents yet either. When officer Darcy knocked on our front door, it felt like hours as I stood there with Aria on the front porch. When they finally opened the door I was surprised to see Georgie awake and on Jessica's hip. She stood a few feet behind Anthony who didn't look happy at all to see his kids being brought home by the police.

They told us to go to our room, and that they'd deal with us in the morning. I handed the keys over to Jessica as I walked past, feeling a knot of guilt twist in my stomach. I definitely wasn't going to be able to leave tonight, but part of me no longer wanted too. Maybe it was a mistake In the first place, maybe I was a little kid, and I should just let them fix my problems. I'm not old enough to drive, I panicked when the officer pulled me over, I let Will use me so easily, and I couldn't even run away right. All night though, I couldn't really sleep, I just tossed and turned, thinking about what Aria said, and what Bentley said, replaying the scene with Will like a car crash. By the time morning came I was thank full, exhausted but thankfull i didn't have to try and sleep anymore.
