Perseus cautiously entered the doomed cave of Medusa, careful not to make any sound. Darkness embraced the hero, warning the secret of monster's lair before him. Suddenly, for a split second, a glimspe of movement could be sensed nearby, ominous sounds of hissing enveloping the Greek man. Heart thumping wildly, Perseus braced himself for a confrontation with Medusa, as monster writhed towards him. With an intense urge to protect himself from becoming a statue, Perseus quickly unveiled his shield, the gift of Athena herself for protection. Moonlight was reflected on the surface of the shield, gleaming in the dark cave.
The dreaded monster mirrored her figure, acting as a barrier between the hero and lethal eyes. Medusa, still unaware of Perseus's presence softly hissed, hair moving in a rhythm. The Greek man prudently took a look at her, tragically stunning. Like a gazelle being hunted, Medusa had sensed a presence; yet by no means she was a prey.
Through the reflection in his shield, Perseus glimsped a flicker of sorrow in Medusa's eyes, a hint of the gentle woman she was once before the eternal curse. For a moment, a seed of compassion was planted in the heart of the hero, leading him to doubt the cruel nature of the monster.
Indirectly, their eyes locked, mediated by the mirror-like surface of the shield. Perseus was drawn to the depths of Medusa's gaze, momentarily lost in the glimmering eyes and evident of vulnerability beneath her cursed exterior. Never had he seen such mesmerizing pair of eyes, promising to strike yet coated with unmistakable longing.
The acquaintance lasted only for a second as Medusa's eyes resumed their cold demeanor, ready for an attack. She drew back, taking a fighting stance. Not missing his chance, Perseus drew his sword, ready for the fight, yet hesitating to strike.
