From the sheltering darkness beneath an ancient olive tree, Toshiro Igarashi surveyed the bustling courtyard of Damascus's rebel headquarters. His gaze lingered on the trio of leaders, Emily, Koda, and Darko, as they congregated, their postures weary yet resolute. Ren Fujisaki stood beside him, her eyes sharp with unspoken thoughts.
"Do you really think General Nico will help us fight Zo?" Toshiro's voice cut through the silence, a blend of hope and uncertainty.
Ren turned to him, her expression steely. "After what that monster did to our people in Hassia? Nico damn well better come through for us."
Kura caught a glimmer of sunlight, the cybernetic limb a beacon of hope in their united stand against Zo. "We have Luna's exploit," Toshiro declared, his voice imbued with the courage of Luna herself.
"True," Ren conceded, her expression shifting slightly, a momentary hint of envy creeping into her features.
Toshiro knew that with Luna and Ren by his side, there was nothing they couldn't overcome. "No matter what lies ahead, we'll face it together," he assured her.
"Together," Ren affirmed. Her lips curved upwards in a small smile. "But first, we must find a way inside. Only leaders are granted entry, but surely, they can make an exception for you—the legendary Hayato."
Color rose to Toshiro's cheeks at the mention of his alter ego. Ren smirked, nudging his shoulder lightly. "Don't be shy about your fame."
Before Toshiro could respond, a figure emerged from the headquarters' heavy doors, striding towards the leaders with unmistakable urgency. It was Conrad, his relief clear as he clasped hands with each of them in turn.
"Ah, you made it," Conrad exhaled, his words reaching Toshiro and Ren, concealed beneath the gnarled branches of the olive tree. "I feared the worst when I heard about Hassia."
"Is the Luna token safe?" Emily cut straight to the core, her leadership mantle worn like armor.
"Yes, it's secure here in Damascus," Conrad assured her, his expression then softening into one of sadness. "I'm deeply sorry about Juno."
"Juno's loss is heavy on all our hearts," Koda said, her voice low and grave, resonating with shared grief.
"Come," Conrad gestured back towards the open door, "we must debrief General Nico and the council."
Toshiro stepped out from the shadows, his eyes fierce with determination. "Excuse me, Conrad. Mind if I tag along?" Toshiro's voice was steady, but his prosthetic arm felt unusually heavy at his side.
Conrad, caught off guard, glanced between Toshiro and the other leaders with a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. "Toshiro! I didn't realize—"
"Absolutely not," Emily interjected swiftly. "Council meetings are strictly confidential."
"Emily," Toshiro began, meeting her steely gaze with equal resolve, "With all due respect, I believe I have valuable insights to share after recent events. My presence could aid the discussion."
Koda's nod was almost imperceptible, yet it held weight. "The man's got a point. He's proven himself capable."
Emily opened her mouth, a retort forming on her lips, but Darko stepped forward, his impatience obvious. "Enough bickering. I'm going inside." His voice was sharp, a finality in each syllable as he turned his back to the group, strides carrying him decisively towards the chamber's entrance. Koda and Conrad exchanged brief looks before trailing behind him, their movements echoing Darko's resolve.
Emily hesitated, her eyes still fixed on Toshiro with suspicion. "Very well," she finally conceded. "But you will not speak unless addressed directly. Is that clear?"
