"I came here to discuss something with you." Carlos said as he picked up his shattered phone from the ground.

He took a deep breath in while me and Diego exchanged looks at each other, concerned for Carlos. His hands were shaking, and his skin appeared a lot paler than usual.

Even Diego seemed a bit shaken by something that I couldn't put my finger on. I will ask him about that later; something was up with him.

"Carlos, what's going on? Are you okay?" I asked as I helped him up from the ground.

"I'm fine." He declared, shutting me off immediately, but continued speaking, "I want to tell you something, privately."

I turned around to signal Diego, but he was already out of the room.

Strange.

"So, what is it?" I asked, crossing my arms and raising my eyebrows in a questioning manner.

"Read this." Carlos handed over a piece of paper to me.

[My little slave,
I have missed you so much in these past years, and I am sure that you have also craved my presence a lot. We will be reunited very soon, and I cannot wait to have you for myself.
Your dear lover
~ S]

Am I in a fucking nightmare, or is all this shit actually happening to me? This can't be happening. No, no, no.

"Where the fuck did you find this?" I asked Carlos, trying to contain my rising anxiety.

"That's not the question here, Emma. You need to tell me who this is so that I can protect you with the company's help. Who is this?" He asked, worry written across his whole face. His hands were reaching for my shoulders and shaking me a bit as if to make me realize my mistake.

Tears welled up in my eyes as memories of Sebastian's abuse and torture of myself came flashing back to me.

"You know we belong together; you're after all my slaves."
"Slaves don't fucking argue, so get to work."
"You know I love you, but you force me to do this to you."

Why was he back after three whole years? What had triggered him to hunt me again?
Most of all, how did he find me?

Thoughts ran inside my head one after the other, and I shook my head to not let any tears fall in front of another person. I will investigate this myself when I have time.

"It's nothing, Carlos. Don't tell anyone about this and forget this ever happened." I snapped at Carlos, a little harsher than what I would have wanted.

"I warned you that day, kiddo. Talk to anyone, but please share what happened. If not with me, then with someone else." With that, he left the room while I contemplated the options I had. He knew I would never willingly tell him about my past, and I was thankful that he didn't pry.

Think! The only way he could have tracked me would be through
No, no. She wouldn't betray me, as she promised.

"You coming?" I heard Diego say, and I quickly dried up my remaining tears and turned around to exit the room.

Outside, we both silently walked up to the car, and Diego started the engine.

"What did Carlos say to you?" He asked as he changed the gear and drove through the bright New York streets. The veins in his hands moved a bit as he drove the car, mesmerizing me momentarily.

"He just showed me something important. I'll take care of it after we come back." I replied, purposefully not telling him the details.

Even though I tried my best to not show my gloomy demeanor after the conversation with Carlos, I think Diego noticed something was up, so he stayed silent, giving me my privacy for the time being.
