*+* Violet's POV*+*
Duncan rounded the last corner. The final stretch. I said to myself. He crossed the finish line a foot behind a foreign exchange student in his school.
"Good job!" The exchange student said. Her green eyes shimmered in the afternoon sunlight. Duncan caught his breath and thanked her. He walked to me. I was on the bleachers with his water bottle.
"She thought she could just come and win gold every time?" Duncan angerly picked his water bottle up and drank his water.
"She did, Duncan. Learn to lose." I said in the nicest way possible, but it still came out a little rude.
"Sheesh, okay." Duncan put his water bottle down and went to the awards assembly. We both knew he got second, but we needed the medal.
After, we headed home. Isadora and Klaus were there watching a baseball game.
"Did you win?" Klaus asked, getting off the couch.
"Second." Duncan said quietly.
"Oh my gosh! That's the best you've-"
"Isadora! I've placed first!"
"Okay, sheesh." Isadora went back on the couch. I sat next to them. Duncan tried to sit on top of me, but I pushed him off. Duncan's medal caught on my neck.
"Duncan!" I said because he was sitting on my hands. He cocked his head like a German Shepard then fixed it. When the baseball game ended it was dinner time, so Isadora and I made dinner. We made chicken noddle soup. Everyone ate it and we went to bed.
The next morning, Duncan had another race. We all came and found a spot. This was the state finals. Duncan warmed up.
I hope he wins, I thought. He started and I watched him the entire race. He was second for the majority and in the end got in first to with by half a second!
"Good job!" I said and kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you!" Duncan said. We went to awards and he got first.
Good job, Duncan, I thought.
