It was a cold winter morning, or so I was told, when we first met. Not that I remember, neither do you. We were both so small, so pure. My earliest memory of us was at your house that one summer when we were 5. You were crying, as usual. A big boy from the playground called you a wimp. Not like you weren't, honestly. I was with Aunt Gabs when you suddenly came running in in tears. It was such a funny scene I couldn't help but laugh at. Funny enough, you started crying even harder then. Back then, that was when I knew we were going to be really good friends.
Since that day, we hardly ever left each other's side. We went everywhere together. To kindergarten, where the kids pushed you around and to primary school, where we spent most of our days. I still remember our daily talks on the bus to and from school, the moments we cherished together. Every morning I knock upon your door, waking the great sleeping beauty from his sleep. Full of bread and laughter, we headed off to school.
What happened this year? I went to your house in the new car my dad bought me, yet you weren't there! Aunt Gabs said you left for school already. Was I late? I told you I was picking you up though. Even as I reached school, you completely ignored me. What happened? Did I do something wrong? A few girls came up to me immediately after I stepped out of my car. Who were they? They grabbed my arm and told me, We were going to have so much fun together! They were so strong, I couldn't get to you. Even when we were having lunch, I tried to get to you. Did you not see me? Again, the girls came and intercepted us. I tried to get you to come to me, did you not notice?
Dugal, Elisa's twin, came to join us for lunch. You should meet him! He reminds me so much of you, both of your whimsical selves, you both would get along really well. He leaned in, and told me someone was staring at me. I glanced towards your direction and realised it was indeed you! Of course, I had to make you jealous enough so you would come join us for lunch. I leaned into him and giggled, peeking at you. Were you jealous?
