Lanterns as bright as their smiles. Marielle and Raven observed the first years as they look around in excitement both of them reminiscing from when they both had that excitement towards the school.

They'd smiled as they shook hands and officially became friends in the cramped train carriage, chocolate frogs and mysterious jellybeans in each hand. Their hands entwined as their nerves grew upon being ushered into the school and the stale hat deciding their house, their future.

Flashback start...

"I'm so nervous!" Raven whisper-shouted. But thankfully she was calmed with a few reassuring words from the younger girl. Thankfully being by each other's side helped calm them both down and realise that it wasn't the end of the world if they weren't with each other.

They both were shushed by a wrinkly old lady with too much hair for her age as they didn't realise they had talked all throughout the choir's song singing about a magic hat? Oh well, they didn't care too much about that as they did some research on the houses before they arrived.

Being informed was one of the most crucial things for both of the girls. It was one of the most important parts of themselves that kept them intact.

The power of knowledge.

"Marcus Juliansson!"

"....HUFFLEPUFF"

"Lilian Cheshire!"

"....GRYFFINDOR"

"Draco Malfoy!"

Whispers sound across the room, waiting to see if he'll be like his father and his father's father and so on. He marched over towards the stiff-looking hat and meters before he reached the chair it screeched "SLYTHERIN! SLYTHERIN!".

He smirked knowingly and tilted his chin up higher which surprised Raven as she didn't think that was physically possible.

He strutted towards the Slytherin table being greeted with high-fives, hand-shakes, greetings and any other welcome you could possibly think of. Dumbledore and McGonagall waited for silence before calling up the next person to be sorted.

"Chad Chilifer!"

"....RAVENCLAW"

...

"Harry Potter!"

His name got passed around through the hall as he shyly made his way to the chair. The students expected him to be more proud and regard himself in a higher manner.

Yet slowly but surely he nervously sat down and the hat was placed upon his head. It was thinking for quite a few minutes which seemed like hours to everyone else who was anticipating and wildly guessing which house he would be in.

The hat's mouth moved so slightly that no ordinary person would be able to guess that there was a question being asked but as Raven and Marielle were both extremely observant they picked up on this clue and looked at each other to acknowledge it. They were about to speak but got interrupted by the hat screaming "IT SHALL BE GRYFFINDOR! FOR THIS IS THE HOUSE THE BOY BELONGS IN!".

People turned to each other and quietly rumoured with each other while some looked at him as if he was the hero they had all been waiting for while some glared and scrunched up their noses at the recognition of his presence from the hat.

It seemed as though the famous Harry Potter couldn't care less though as he joyfully bounced over to the Gryffindor tables and took a seat next to two identical red-heads.

"Hermione Granger!"

"....GRYFFINDOR"

The girl's sceptical face lifted into a happier one as she walked over and took a seat next to the boy and his twin friends. She smiled at Harry and he retired with a shy smile in awe of her perfect complexion...
