Chapter 3

Skyler

Fucking Friday. My eyes are tired from not sleeping at all last night. I'm falling asleep in my french literature class when I get a text from an unknown number.

Did Ally tell you a what time we should meet? I'm Matt by the way.

Oh my God I had completely forgotten about studying with Matt. Ally didn't say anything concrete so I planned it after classes.

How about at my dad's book store meet me in 30? I have to look after it while he's gone.

Sure! Doesn't matter! God, do I look desperate?

I just laughed and started paying attention to the class. That's when i realized that everyone was looking at me.

"Skyler, if you're not going to pay attention you can leave." Said my teacher.

"Sorry professor, it won't happen again." I assured him then made myself comfortable in my seat.

"Well Miss Skyler. If it won't happen again, can you please explain what the book we're reading is about?"

GOD BLESS MY GRANDMA! She used to read this to me whenever she came over to visit.

"It stars Julian Sorel, son of a carpenter of a fictional town called Verrières. Julian tries hard to upgrade his social status despite his young age, saying what everyone wants to hear and doing what the want to see him do." I say easily.

He just smiled at me with satisfaction and a little envy and just carried on with his class. There was only a minute left til I got out of class when I received another text from Matt.

Um...Sklyer...I don't know where your dad's book store is. HAHA.

Oh God I'm so stupid sometimes, I don't usually receive visits from people that don't already know my address (Nico and Ally) and now I was embarrassing myself.

Right, sorry about that. It's in front of the Starbucks on the main avenue, next to the fountain.

I walked out of the class room and Ally was waiting form me at the door. On our way to the book store we met up with Nico and so Ally's torture begins. I watched the walk into her favorite cafe and they disappeared from my sight.

The book store was closed and I was alone. Apparently the cold kept everyone inside they're houses today. I opened the store, Matt was taking a while to get here so I started organizing books and cleaning the dust off the old ones.

I was starting to get bored without music so I played Man! I Feel Like A Woman so i wouldn't fall asleep.

I was starting to take long but, what could I do? I didn't want to seem desperate getting there too early so I took my time getting ready. Right when I was about to leave my annoying brother walked into my room to do nothing more than to ask money from me.

"I'm not going to give you my money so that you can waste it getting high." I say

"I don't get high Matty I smoke. They are very different things. I would never do drugs! By my mothers grave are you crazy!" He yelled exaggeratedly.

"What do you mean 'by my mothers grave'? I'm still alive! AND WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT SMOKING?" Yelled my paranoid mother.

"Bye family drama! I'm going to get there later than I planned!" I said fixing my hair.

"Why are you getting so dressed up if you're going to study?" Asked my mom.

"Yeah, sure 'STUDY'" Said my brother sarcastically.

"I'm leaving.'' I murmured.

I walked out of my house and was about to go in when I heard a very familiar voice singing an old and catchy song. I opened the door and a bell rang notifying my presence but she was so distracted singing that she didn't even notice.

God she looked beautiful. God, why am I thinking this? God, why am I saying 'God' so much?

I took my phone out and recorded her, I wanted Ally to see this.

"Man! I feel like a- shit." She sang-said.

"Um..hi Skyler" I said trying not to burst out laughing.

"Oh hi Matt... uh...I... We should start studying" She murmured without looking at me in the eyes.

A while after Matt had arrived -which by the way I didn't notice- my dad arrived so we had to go upstairs to study. I sat across from Matt, the table was small so I could fell him breathe. He started explaining calculus. I didn't understand shit. We lost track of time, it was starting to get dark outside.

"Sorry Skyler, I give up." He said disappointed and frustrated at the same time. Is that possible?

"No no no no no no!" I yell.

"Skyler, you're not understanding and I have no idea how to explain any other way." He said calmly.

"What if we see each other another day?" I say with hope not to fail this fucking class.

"Fine, I'll bring apples to help explain." He says

"NO GOD NO! NOT APPLES MATT! GUMMYBEARS MATT, GUMMYBEARS! And not the yellow ones!" I yell while making a threatening face that made him burst out laughing. Wow... I love his laugh. Oh my God Skyler what are you thinking? Stop thinking like this. He's your best friends' best friend, it's a rule; I can't go out with her best friend and she can't go out with mine. Although she won't trouble with her and Nico, since he's gay.

Speaking of Ally and Nico they were yelling at each other downstairs, Matt and I went down immediately. Crap I saw this coming, they can't be in the same room with each other without fighting. If they gave me a dollar for every time they fought, I would be a millionaire. I swear.

"Shut up you son of a bitch!" She yelled exasperated "Oh my God! You made me say a bad word!"

"I didn't make you say anything, it's your mouth. So shush,control it." Said Nico.

Ally motioned at him to shut up.

I think this was a great moment to intervene but it was so funny to watch them fight. On my way towards them, I see Matt walk over to Ally and grab her cheeks to try and calm her down. Ally just looked at looked at him with a puppydog face.

Right at this moment I fell obligated to do the same thing with my best friend. I grab his face and try to calm him down. But this fucker pushed me out the way trying to make me fall.

"What the fuck are you doing?" He yelled with no control.

"Nico, just think of ponys and unicorns, ponys and unicorns" I say in a melodic voice.

He looked at me with a face full of confusion, but deep down I know it worked. I turn to look at Matt and find that he still has his hands on Allys' cheeks and they're both trying to hold back laughter that apparently this whole scene has caused.

The bright side of this is that nobody's mad anymore, the bad side is...well... I look stupid.

After awhile in the store sitting on the ground, talking; Matt received a message from his brother and said he would walk Ally home since it was on his way back and it was getting late.

Nico stayed awhile and my dad joined us.

"So Nico, what happend with Ally?" He asked Nico

I just looked at him with a face saying: 'Really? You had to bring up that topic of conversation? Out of all the ones out there, you had to pick that one?'agh.

"Right! I'm mad at that annoying little bitch." He murmured with annoyance in his voice "MY GOD SKYLER, I have to tell you the best news you'll hear all week!"He yelled.

"What is it?" I asked confused.
