THE NEXT MORNING
This week has been absolutely brutal. My grades are slipping, and to make matters worse, I just found out that most of my so-called friends were only hanging around me because of my sister's popularity. It's like they don't care about me—only about being connected to Georgia. Why can't anyone just like me for who I am? There's so much more to me than being "Georgia's sister."
The only bright spot in all this drama has been getting closer to Winnie. Ever since the sleepover, we've really bonded. Honestly, it was the first time I felt like someone genuinely cared about me—not just about what I could give them in terms of popularity or connections. Winnie's brother is popular too, so she definitely doesn't need to use me for that. And even though she knows about the drama between her brother and Georgia, she's never let that affect our friendship. It feels good to have someone who sees me as me.
But there's another thing that's been weighing heavy on my mind. We have this project where we have to write a speech about our favorite parent—and I'm stuck. I barely remember our parents. They died when I was so young. I don't even have enough memories to make the speech meaningful. I wish I had more stories to share, more moments to hold onto. Maybe then, this project wouldn't feel so impossible.
I thought about asking Georgia and Adeline about them—about what they were like as parents, how they felt when I was born—but even then, I don't think my speech would be very long. Time's running out, and if I don't figure this out soon, I'm seriously going to struggle this term. I just hope I can pull it together before it's too late.
