How they show affection

Sherlock

He is not a big fan of romance generally and he's not so big on giving flowers, gifts etc. He finds it useless since "it will rot in a week, there is absolutely no point" .

So you knew right away you can't expect much from this mystery man, but somehow, he tends to surprise you with little things sometimes.

He's not super good at it but he tries.

Once he cleaned the entire apartment while you were away but didn't manage to put things back in the place so you spent about a month looking for your favorite sweater. He also tried cooking for you but he burned the pan along with dinner in it, so Mrs. Hudson had to help him out.

Instead of flowers he'd get you a plant in a flowerpot so you could have it for a longer time but he would somehow manage to kill it by watering it too much or spilling some suspicious substance in it so it would "grow flowers faster".

He wasn't the best at it but you knew he tried, and that's what matters to you.

John

Now, he is a man who understands romance if you're the one. He likes giving you flowers and sometimes small gifts but he prefers taking you out for dinners. 

It makes him feel good when he can provide things for you. Although sometimes he tends to overdo things and surprise you way too much.

One time he took you out for your birthday in a very expensive restaurant (Mycroft gave him a very good amount of money for maintaining his brother) and got the whole restaurant crew to sing you a birthday song while bringing you cake. You were super embarrassed but you knew he only did it out of love. 

And the cake was lovely too. 

Lestrade 

He is a bit clumsy when it comes to romance but he tries his best. 

He usually gives you flowers and sometimes writes little notes of affection but as he struggles with words he often asks Donovan for help saying something like "What should I write that makes it sound like I can't live without her, but not too needy?" She just groans and helps him out so he doesn't write something extremely stupid. 

Other than notes he likes quality time, usually letting you pick the movie even if it's another boring rom-com, he'll watch for your sake. 

Moriarty

He gives a little Gomez/Morticia dark vibe so he brings you only red roses. Usually when he's in a good mood after making one of his psychotic plans work. 

He also enjoys quality time and likes taking you with him wherever he goes. Kind of like a little kid pulling a proud parent to see what great thing he did, he likes to bring you along and make you proud of him. 

He enjoys any physical contact with you and likes holding you close any chance he gets.
