A/N: Day 1: Military/Magic

A warm puff of cinnamon-scented air hit Jacob as he entered his and Ben's shared RV. His roommate was cleaning the counter of his latest baking adventure, and the oven light was on, allowing the Chief to see a pie inside. Judging by the apple cores piled on the end of the counter, Ben had finally found the apples he needed to try the new pie recipe he'd discovered online.

"Hey, Jake!" Ben smiles when he sees who had entered the RV, "you're a little early; the pie isn't done baking yet!"

"Looks like you've been busy," Jacob remarked, watching the medic wipe the flour, sugar and species off the counter, "that the new pie recipe you've been telling me about?"

"It is!" he confirmed, "I found the perfect honey crisp apples at this town's farmers' market! Freshly picked yesterday! The lady who sold them to me said they would be great for this recipe!"

"I guess we'll have to wait and see if she's right," he smirks, spotting a leftover apple on the counter, "you had an extra one?"

"Yeah, it has a small bruise, so she must have thrown it in for free," he guesses, "you can have it if you want."

"Thanks," he says, grabbing the apple and moving to the sink to wash it.

"Have you thought more about that new recruit?" Ben asks, throwing the apple cores into the small compost bin.

Jacob nods, hitting the tap off, "they might be a good addition... They have a lot of experience with the supernatural and inside knowledge that even Felix might not have... Do you think it's too soon to bring in another recruit? Luke's still new, and Priya hasn't been with us for much longer..."

"But if they're as good as people are saying, they could be a great asset to this team!" he replies, "of course, you don't have to make a decision yet, but you know I'll support whatever you choose!"

"Thanks, Ben; what would I do without you?" he chuckles, rolling his apple over a towel to dry it off.

He laughed, "probably arrested and doing fifty to life!"

"I'm not that bad!" he argued, biting into the apple with a satisfying crunch.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Which one of us got arrested because they were caught trespassing at that abandoned amusement park?" he countered.

He blushed in embarrassment, "that was only because I got stuck in the fence, and you know it!"

"Yeah... Keep telling yourself that!" he smirked, "now, how about you help me-"

CRASH!

Ben whipped around as the sudden sound of a body hitting the ground interrupted him. Jacob had dropped like a rag doll on the floor of the RV; his arm sprawled to the side as his apple rolled away from him. The Chief's eyes were closed, and he made no noise, not even a cry of pain from landing on the floor as hard as he did.

"Jake?!" Ben cried, dropping to his knees at his friend's side, "are you okay?! What happened?!"

But Jacob didn't answer. In fact, he didn't respond to Ben yelling or when the medic shook his shoulder. Ben rolled the Chief onto his back and began assessing him for injuries. It wouldn't be the first time Jacob got hurt, and he didn't tell him until after he'd passed out...

But he couldn't find any injuries, not even after stripping the bulletproof vest and patting down Jacob's torso. So, if he wasn't injured, why did he suddenly pass out? His breathing was even, his face was lax, and if Ben had to describe how his friend looked, he would have said that Jacob was simply sleeping. In fact, sleeping was what Jacob was doing!
