Chapter 28

Demi's POV

Lexi looks so perfect in her wedding dress. The way she's walking down the isle, and that smile.. She's gorgeous. I feel like I'm going to cry tears of joy, but I won't. Uh oh.. What's going on? Why is she bleeding? Lexi? Lexi! Lexi collapses as I run to her. No pulse. What the hell just happened?!

I woke up in tears. Lexi was lying in the hospital bed, still under. That was the worst nightmare... At this point, why bother going to sleep? I'll just have another nightmare about Lexi. No. This isn't fair. She's so nice to everyone. She ignores the haters. She's never mean! She doesn't deserve this! Please God, don't take her yet. Please.. I need her. Let her wake up... And off I went.

I woke up with a splitting headache, and the need for caffeine. When I walked into the cafeteria, everyone stared. I look at the tv and see my face.

Great. Now it's on the news.
"Get a grip guys! Stop staring! Don't you have better things to do?!"
I yelled and walked out. Not even bothering to get coffee. I got half way to Lexi's room when I heard someone saying my name. I turned around and saw a little girl, about 14 years old.

"Is Lexi okay?" She asked me. "I saw what was on the news. And I know Lexi is your girlfriend. I follow you both on Twitter and so that's how I know."

"Uhm, she's been better." I smirked, trying to make light of the situation. "But I think she'll be okay. I'm hoping she will be. Keep her in your prayers okay?"

"Always Demi. Can I um.. Can I give you a hug? You look like you need it." She said slowly coming towards me.

"Of course." I gave her a hug and watched as she walked away. She looked back once, then she was gone.

Sitting in Lexi's room, it's been a week now. Her mom has been here with me the last few days, and it's been really quiet. We only talk about what's on tv. There's a huge elephant in the room, and it's keeping Lexi silent on the bed. The only time I leave is to go home and take a shower, and I come back here.
"Demi, this isn't your fault you know. The world is just a shitty place. There's nothing you could've done." Her mom placed her hand on my shoulder, and I could hear her sniffle. I got up and gave her a hug, and we both started bawling.

A month had passed, and Lexi still hadn't woken up. I was terrified. The wounds were horrible, and I knew she needed a while to recover.
"Miss Lovato? Is her mother here?" The nurse had a concerning look on her face.

"Um no. She went home. Family members came in to visit Lexi, she had to go greet them. Why? What's going on?"

"We think.."

"Don't you say it." I am sure at this point I sounded extremely pissed. Some douchebags shot my fiancé, and now this nurse is going to say to pull the plug. F*ck no. I turned around...
