 Maxine

The next morning

I feel warm blankets covering my body. I toss and turn, starting to wake up. My head was pounding against my skull and I groaned, opening my eyes. My vision was blurry and for a few seconds it felt like the room was spinning. Forcing myself up, dizziness took over, causing me to lay back down.

I frowned. What's happening? I feel weird and really odd.

I took a couple of deep breaths and sat up, rubbing my eyes. I looked around the room before looking back to where I was sleeping. Weird, I don't remember going to bed last night. I stared up to the ceiling trying to recall yesterday's events.

I remembered that after Adrian had left, a woman came to pick up the broken pieces from the floor. An hour after she left I found a book on one of the shelves and started reading it out of boredom. Then last night the same woman from yesterday morning gave me a cup of tea. The rest is blurry after that.

I slipped out from underneath the covers, when something caught my eye. Standing up I found a piece of paper lying on the table. On the paper were two hand signatures. One of them I recognized as my very own.

My heart felt like it almost stopped and I snatched the paper off the table, staring at my own signature in disbelief.

Marriage?

“What?” I gasped in confusion. Why is my hand signature on a marriage certificate? I scanned through the words, my hands shaking as I held it. My body froze at the last sentence. “Maxine Night” and next to mine was his name "Adrian Night".

On the right side of the table laid a gorgeous diamond ring, supposedly mine. I looked back at the paper in my hand, it was legit and it was anything but fake. I stared at in denial, my mind trying to process what the fuck was happening. This had to be a joke, I would never sign a marriage certificate.

I run my hands through my hair and crumpled the paper into a ball, anger exploding through my body. I held the crumble paper in my hand and I stormed towards the door that was keeping me hostage.

As I grabbed and twisted the doorknob, I stumbled back when it surprisingly opened with ease. They didn't lock the door…

I stepped out of the room and into a big hallway, the walls were decorated with paintings and the floor covered in black carpet. I continued storming down the hallway, not even knowing where I was going, the only thought I had was that I needed to see him. He was behind this and I knew it.

A few maids stood at the end of the hallway cleaning the area and as I got closer they noticed me, looking up in surprise.

“Morning miss,” the woman holding a duster said.

“Where's Adrian?” I breathed out clenching my fists to the side trying to keep my emotions in check.

“Mr. Night is currently in his office talking to his right hand man.”

“Take me to him.” I demanded, my patience growing thin.

“He doesn't like to be bothered.” she mumbled looking back at the other maid.

I took a step forward glaring down at her. “ Take me to him.” I say the next word slowly. "Now!”

The woman looked back at the other woman, fear in her eyes. She puts the duster down on the table motioning me to follow her and I follow her down the stairs.

When we reached the end of the stairs I took a chance to look around the mansion. From what I could see, a few staff members were walking around doing their daily chores which seemed to be mainly cleaning.
