Maxine
"Do you have anything planned for today?" Hanna asked, walking up the stairs with me. "Not yet." I answered and looked forward. A maid left Adrian's room, carrying a basket with bedsheets. She quickly closed the door and carried it down the hall.
"Good morning." she smiled at us. "Morning." Hanna greeted her back and I just gave her a small nod.
I stopped walking and waited until she was downstairs. "She didn't lock the door." I said out loud and sprinted towards his bedroom.
"Wait." Hanna gasped running after me. "Mr. Night never lets anyone go in to his room. If he finds us sneaking around, we'll be in big trouble."
I stood in front of the door. "He's hiding something. Everyone does." I told Hanna and opened the door. "Stay here. Warn me if someone comes." I whispered and closed the door behind me.
I could smell the hint of male cologne that was still hanging in the air. The curtains were opened and there was a desk in front of the window with a computer. His king size bed was in the centre of the room and the walls were grey.
I walked over to his bed, lifting the mattress and sliding my hand underneath. Nothing. I moved to his drawer pulling it open and saw some folded clothes with a few things in it like a watch. Nothing here either. I'm probably just looking at the wrong place. There has to be something I can use against him.
In the corner of my eye I see something jump onto the bed, startling me. I gasped, putting my hand over my chest. The gray cat meowed and took a step towards me.
It was small, which means it was still a kitten. I gently picked her up and saw she was a female. "You're so pretty." I held her against my chest and kissed her on the head as she rubbed against me. Baby animals are so damn cute.
I paused looking back at her. Was he leaving her alone in his bedroom all day? "I'm taking you with me." I cooed while walking back to the door. Hanna jumped her eyes going down to the cat as I shut the door.
"She's coming with us." I whispered to Hanna before sprinting back to my room. When we were inside Hanna closed the door and walked towards me. "I didn't even know Mr. Night had a cat." Hanna looked at me confused.
I shrugged my shoulders and put the cat down on the floor. "She's a girl." Hanna bent down, softly rubbing her. "Aww she's so cute."
There was a knock on the door. My eyes widened and I motioned Hanna to hide from the cat. When I opened the door, Louis stood there, his blue eyes piercing into mine. "Adrian wants to see you."
I groaned, walking towards the living room Adrian was supposed to be. Leaving the cat in Hanna's care. When I entered the living room Adrian was sitting on a couch, his head laid back and with a gloved hand over his face.
"You wanted to talk?" I said walking over and taking a seat on the couch in front of him. He removed his hand from his face and sat up straight. His eyes were red and he almost looked ill. I laid back on the couch. "If I knew you were crying. I would've stayed in my room." I rolled my eyes.
He narrowed his eyes at me. "I wasn't fucking crying." A maid walked in, putting a cup of tea on the table and walked out again. Adrian sneezed and I bit my lip holding back the "Bless you." I didn't want him to be blessed. In fact I hope he has the flu so that I can watch him suffer.
"Give me the names of the businesses your father owns. Especially the ones no one knows about." he demands, handing me a piece of paper and a pen. "What do you plan on doing with the names?" I questioned him.
"I'll search for something your father did without the mayor's consent." he said. I hummed, holding the pen in between my fingers and started writing down the 5 names.
My father only has two businesses no one knows about. And that is Midnight Tide - the incoming and going of cargo ships. And The second one being Shield View, a security camera company.
I felt Adrian's gaze as I finished writing down the last two names. I give him the paper. "The last two are the ones no one knows about." I told him and his eyes moved down to the paper. "Shield View. I've heard that name somewhere before. What type of business is it?"
"Security cameras. '' when the words leave me lips Adrian's shoulders tensed up and his adams apples moved up and down, forming a lump in his throat. His eyes darkened as he stared at the paper in his hand. I watched him in curiosity, not saying anything.
The door opened and Vannesa walked in carrying a small bag in her hand. "What is she doing here?" I whispered to Adrian, tensing up and he looked towards the door.
If she's here then that means I have to pretend to be his wife again.
"I hope I wasn't interrupting. It's just that I was worried." She frowned, taking a seat next to him causing me to sigh. "Damon told me you weren't feeling well. So I brought you some of my mom's ointment." she continued.
"Where's Damon?" he asked her.
I stood up walking to the door. "I came alone." I heard her say. "I have things to do. Please excuse me." I rolled my eyes leaving them to whatever there's going on between the two of them.
I spent the rest of the day in my room, playing with the cat. Hanna came in a few times bringing the cat something to eat and drink. I laid under the blankets, watching Netflix while she laid on my lap purring. Turns out it was the hormones from last night. I've been cramping for the past hour.
A few minutes later Hanna stormed in looking out of breath. "He knows the cat is gone." she said in panic.
"The maid from this morning told Mr. Night that she forgot to lock the door this morning and now she can't find the cat."
"Calm down Hanna. He probably doesn't even care about her. He locked her inside of his room." I added, trying to reassure her.
"He looked really worried."
"Did he?" I asked and then we heard voices in the hallway. I slipped out of the warm blankets, carefully moving the cat to the middle of the bed so that she wouldn't fall off.
When we opened the door Adrian stood at his door talking to the maid. She looked anxious and her eyes shifted towards me and Hanna. "I took her." I said loud enough so that both of them could hear me.
Hanna moved next to me standing in the hallway, not meeting Adrian's eyes. Adrian's eyes moved to mine.
"Leave us." he commanded and both Hanna and the other maid left us alone in the hallway.
He walked towards me. "You took her?" he questioned. "I had to. What were you thinking about leaving a kitten alone inside of a locked room?" I said angrily. Adrian sighed, rubbing a hand over his face in frustration. "I didn't know what to do with her."
"Then why did you get a cat?" I frowned.
"I...didn't." he looked at me. "Early this morning a guard called me. I found her freezing outside in the garden full of dirt. So I took her to my room and cleaned her but she was still cold so I let her sleep with me in the bed." he groaned.
So he basically saved her? I would've never thought he'd have a soft spot for animals. This just proves that I don't know anything about him. Yet I'm placing my safety in his care.
"I kept her inside of my room so that she wouldn't wander off and get hurt," he continued.
"I see." I replied looking back at my door. Should I give her back to him? For once he actually looked worried about her.
"I almost forgot." he said, grabbing back my attention. "My brother and Vannesa are staying for the weekend. He doesn't trust me, which means. We have to share a bedroom until they're gone."
"No." I hissed. "I'm not sleeping with you."
