"It would be fun." They said, "It will be relaxing." They said, then why am I not relaxing?! My name is Mike Glub, I'm 29 years old, and I was dragged here against my will. Currently I am on a trip with my work from South Korea, I moved from America to Korea, and it was fun, but nothing special. I work at a food company called A & C Food Inc. I help give ideas for their products.
My boss, Ri Ji-ho, asked the higher up for this trip, he claims it would benefit for the employees and for the company "It's a perfect team building opportunity." He speaks. Honestly, the reason I came along was because we were getting paid during this trip. I'm cool with it; I get to do nothing while being paid.
We're already 3 days into the trip, we're there for 7 days, and so far, it's hella boring. I would like to be at home with my cat, watching baseball! We were getting news there was a storm heading our direction, which would be a good excuse to say "There's a storm coming in. I'm going home!" But unfortunately, I just can't leave, on top of this, there is another rumor the storm won't even reach us!
"Glub!" I look over to see who called me and it was Ji-ho. "Yeah?" I asked, "Are you enjoying the trip?" he asks, fixing his glasses. "It's... ok." I responded, "Just, ok? But there are beautiful beaches, amazing waterfalls, I know you like the ocean." He explained. I know he means well, and he wants me to explore and hangout with the other coworkers, but I quickly change the subject. "This wind is starting to pick up." I said "Yes, they did say the storm is coming." Ji-ho said however I feel this storm won't be a normal one.
The next day the wind was really picking up, hotel staff and employees were running around to get ready for this storm. It began to rain too, but it came in heavily. The hotel manager sent out an announcement, they got word the storm was a hurricane and they recommended us to shelter in the storage room below the hotel which was in the center of the building.
As the night progressed, we were still in our rooms. The wind began to grow louder, the rain was pounding against the window. Suddenly I heard my door open to see Ji-ho with a few of our coworkers "Come on!" He exclaimed, without hesitation, I jumped out of my bed and began to follow them.
As we made our way to the storage room, the doors to the courtyard burst open, the suction was so great the guest and my coworkers held on to the nearest object, however Ji-ho wasn't lucky. The wind picked him up and tried to pull him away from us.
"JI-HO!!" I shouted, without hesitating, I grabbed his hand, my heels digging into the ground, my arm firmly wrapped around a pillar. "Hold on! Don't let go!" I yelled; I pulled him into my arms to hold him as tight as I could so he wouldn't be blown away. As soon as Ji-ho got his feet on the ground, we both made our way to the storage room with the others.
When we made it, we waited, and waited, and waited. It became eerily quiet, someone asked if the hurricane had passed but an employee said no. After what felt like hours the hurricane came back. After what felt like an eternity it became quiet again, we waited for another hour, and we knew it was safe to go back out.
When we came out of the storage room, everything around us looked like we stepped into World War 2. I looked over at Ji-ho, he had lost his glasses from the storm, I asked if he was ok. He said nothing at first, but then said "Yes, are you ok?" I looked back at the debris "Yeah..." I am grateful we all survived the eye of the storm.
