When it comes to the "romantic marketplace", pretty privilege is absolutely a real issue. If you aren't considered conventionally attractive, you will be treated differently. Not conforming to beauty standards often means being mocked, harassed, or ignored.
Why is understanding this concept important in hypegirl world? Well, it's important for the same reasons that understanding homophobia is. Knowledge is key to being a hypegirl, but that doesn't necessarily mean being book smart. It means having intimate knowledge how the dating, romance, and s3x spheres work. This includes societal/oppressive structures that affect these spheres.
So, how does pretty privilege relate to makeovers? In this journal, a makeover is a method of long-term help. It's a method to help with confidence and decrease insecurity. In relation to pretty privilege however, makeovers give people access to pretty privilege.
