Like paintings in a picture frame, it's only you i see right now.
~ Northern Lights , Kennie
you were at a company party of some sorts with your best friend, Shoko Ieiri. her not being in a relationship meant that you were typically her plus one to any event that allowed her to have one. she always talked about her coworkers but you had never met any of them before. it was kind of nerve wrecking, you hadn't noticed just how close knit everyone was for a workplace. it seemed you were the only person who hadn't worked here or never met anyone before. you played with the fabric of your black, floor length gown as you stood behind Shoko talking to a coworker. your eyes wander the room, taking in just how nice the space was for a company party. Shoko worked as a doctor for an elite private school, it was no surprise they'd have money to afford all of this. you were half convinced the food was served on real silver platters. in your admiration of the room, you took notice of a man standing near a wall on the other side of the room, talking with a couple of other guests. you hadn't realized you were staring until he had looked in your direction, causing you to immediately look away. trying to act natural, you continue to look around the room before bringing your focus back to Shoko and her coworkers. "Y/n, what do you do for a living?" one of the girls ask. "oh, i um. i own a café, actually," you give a proud smile. you were feeling a bit out of place. everyone here felt they fit the scene compared to you. you werent sure if you truly did look out of place or if it was because everyone seemed to know everyone while you knew no one. "really?! which one?! is it close by?!" the woman balls her hands into fists from excitement. she clearly loves cafés "it's actually right around the corner, maybe a 10 minute walk. Mikrokosmos," you smile. "YOU OWN MIKRO?!" the girl yelled, getting a few heads to turn from those closest to the small group. "now, Utahime, no need to yell at the poor girl," a woman with silver hair chuckled, entering the conversation. you looked around the room once more to see if anyone else had looked over, this time you had caught him staring. the man stood at the back, laughing at whatever his friend had said. except he didn't look away like you did. he smiled, nodding his head slightly as a hello. you bow your head back at the man before coming back to the conversation in front of you.
the party was going well so far, you had gotten to know a few more people. the silver haired woman was MeiMei. you also met Shoko's boss, Masamichi Yaga, and a blonde haired man named Kento Nanami. you recognized him from the group of men that stood in the back of the room. it had been a while since you had last seen the guy you had locked eyes with. you felt he was hard to miss considering he was one of, if not, the tallest person here. not to mention his hair. he was hard to miss if he were in the room. as your thoughts trailed off, the sound of glass being tapped on brought you back to your body. "could everyone please find your seat, the staff is ready to take orders!" Yaga announced from the table positioned at the front of the room. everyone had gone to their respective tables, looking for their names on the tags placed on top of the menus. you followed Shoko, assuming all invitee's were sat with their inviter. you move your dress out of your way to sit down properly. "allow me," a voice says, grabbing the back of your chair and pulling it out. you look up to see the man from earlier. he's prettier up close... "thank you," you give a soft smile to the snowy haired man, sitting down. he pushed you in before taking the only seat left next to you. "i'm assuming you're Shoko's plus one?" he says, pulling himself to the table. you give him a nod, "i am. i'm Y/n L/n," you hold out a hand for him to shake. he takes your hand, gently shaking, a smile lighting up his face at your name. "beautiful name. i'm Satoru Gojo," he introduces. you feel your nerves settling in again as you stare at him, you hadn't noticed just how pretty his eyes were until now. "heeeyyy!!! Gojo!!!" Shoko chimes at the man, pealing herself from the conversation she was having with the other person next to her. you jolt at the sound of her voice, letting his hand go. "Shoko, it's always nice to see you! so this is the Y/n you always talk about?" he says looking back at you with a wide grin. you quickly look at Shoko, "you talk about me?!" you say almost speechless. she pulls you into a hug, your face squished against her chest, "of course i talk about my beautiful girlfriend!" she says, kissing the top of your head. "girlfriend?" Satoru questions, looking between the two of you. you pull yourself out of her grasp. "we aren't dating," you quickly say as you fix your hair. "but man would i try my damnedest if she was into women. wouldn't you want a woman like her, Satoru?" Shoko teases, pinching your cheek. "ow, Shoko," you frown, rubbing your cheek once she let go, your face turning a light pink at her question to the man. "i didn't know you were into girls," Gojo stated, ignoring her question. she simply shrugged, "i'm not, but i would be if my lovely Y/n was."
once dinner was over, everyone continued to chat amongst themselves. Shoko had left the table a while ago to talk to the people she hadn't been able to see yet. leaving you alone at the table with Gojo. surprisingly, you were having a good time with him. he was funny, with many stories to tell. you learned he and Shoko had started working at the same time. after a few stories he had told about the early days of working with Shoko and their former coworker Geto, you had realized this was the same Gojo that Shoko talked about every now and then. you had gotten onto the topic of your job occupation, explaining the cafe you owned and how you got to this point. you found yourself enjoying his company more than you realized as you listened to him list off desserts he loved. turns out he was a big sweets guy. his eyes had flicked to the dance floor and back to you before he stood up. you had tuned out the music, only focused on the sound of his voice and everything he had been talking about, you forgot you were at a party. you stared at him as you listened to the slow song playing. "come dance with me," he offers his hand, a soft smile on his face. you take it, him pulling you up to the dance floor. you had caught a glimpse of Shoko who had winked at you, giving you a thumbs up. you look down at your feet as you swayed with the man, your face feeling hot again. the two of you continued your conversation. by the end of the night you had exchanged numbers.
*** 9 Months Later ***
you were getting ready for your date with Gojo. you both had been talking non-stop since the night you met, hanging out at least once a week as friends. it wasn't until 4 months ago you had started going on dates. you weren't going to deny the feelings you had for him and it didn't seem like he was interested in denying his own. you both were very open about how you felt. despite how couple-like the two of you acted towards each other, neither of you made a move to make things official yet. there was a knock at the door, you quickly make your way, opening it up to reveal the snowy haired man, smiling widely, holding a bouquet of flowers already in a vase. "i know you don't like flowers, but they're fake so you don't have to worry about caring for them!" he quickly says, handing them to you. you take them, laughing at the gesture. "how thoughtful of you, Satoru. but you don't always have to get me something when we go out," you walk off to your kitchen, placing them on the counter. "i know," he calls out. you hear the door closing in the distance, footsteps approaching you. his hands snake around your waist as you turn to face him. "but i want to spoil you," he smiles, kissing your forehead. "thank you, Satoru," you give him a hug, his head resting on top of yours.
this had been your 8th date with him now. this time the two of you had gone mini golfing, then to a dinner and ending the day with a nightly walk at the park near your home. "i had a lot of fun today. thank you!" you say, grabbing his hand that rested on your thigh as he drove back to your home. locking your fingers together, he raised your hand to his lips, kissing the back of your hand. pulling up to your home, he turns the car off, getting out to open your door. you take his hand as you step out his car, heading to the front door to unlock it. you could feel him staring at you as you opened the door. stepping inside, he closes and locks it behind him, taking his shoes off at the door with you. you both head to the living room to watch something and chat for a little bit as you usually did after dates. this was always the hardest part, trying to leave when neither of you wanted to go. you had been talking about work and the crazy, weird and funny customers that came into the café the other day. "Satoru?" you question with a smile as he stared at you. he hummed a "hmm?" not taking his eyes off yours. your smile grew wider once you noticed he hadn't been listening at all. "something distracting you?" you ask, twirling a strand of his hair around your finger. he just nods, a smile forcing its way onto his face. before you knew what was happening his lips were pressed against yours. it took you a moment to process as you haven't actually kissed yet. his lips were soft and warm. it completely melted you as you fell into the kiss. his hand locking with the hand you had in his hair, his other hand holding the back of your head to prevent you from hitting it as he slowly leaned you back. you could feel your heart pounding throughout your whole body, your face burning as you felt the weight of him on top of you. slowly he pulled away after a few minutes, the two of you catching your breath. "let me stay here by your side," he whispers.
