author's POV

final 10 minutes of the year

y/n, albert, denis, dani, and jayden all stood around the tv with drinks in hand. the clock moved slow, as laughter filled the room. 

 and obviously the countdown they chose to play had some stupid dubstep playing in the background, like they always do. If you konw, you know.

y/n's POV

5 minutes left until the new year

 "guys wait!!! we have to make a toast when its time!" I said, half slurring the end of my sentence. "yeah good idea!" albert and denis said at the same exact time. dani and jayden stayed in the same spot as the three of us went to go fill our solo cups again before it was too late.

silence fell over us as we poured more of our drinks into the cups. it honestly felt pretty nice since there hadn't been a true moment of silence in a hot minute, or at least since this morning. anyways though, it was a short amount of time before we were back in the living room with everyone else.

dani's POV

me and jayden stood waiting in the living room for everyone else since our cups were still full. "dani, you think we can like... do something? to help albert AND y/n??"

I knew exactly what he was talking about, and even though maybe we shouldn't meddle with the situation, how could anyone stand to struggle to watch their best friends not see their hints and stuff? even if we did acknowledge that we should help them, what do you even do?

but obviously, we had to do SOMETHING, at least make one of them push a little harder. give them hints of our own.

"honestly, yeah. It's annoying seeing them be oblivious to each other." I tell him. suddenly everyone is back in the room, which is fine. I just shoot a 'you know what to do' glance at jayden.

we all shuffle around the tv, watching the numbers go down. albert and y/n now next to each other.

albert's POV

1 minute left of the yearI stood, looking up at the tv and smiling. "guys, theres one minute!!" I alert my friends.

 I just stand, staring for a moment, all the sounds blurring into something I know will become a memory.

"you okay?" I love you. wait sorry.

I look back down. y/n is asking me this with a concerned- smirking ish look on her face. I just pause and look in her eyes.

she looks into mine.

"yeah. just, thinking." I say, nodding and looking back at the ground. my brightly colored socks still clash against her plain white heels.

there is another moment between us. for some reason, I don't mind it like I usually would. 

"you know," y/n starts with a sigh.

"I just wanna say thank you. I don't really know why, but thank you, albert." I don't know exactly what she means, but I think she means something. I just cannot grasp it. and before I think I can ask, its the last 10 seconds of the year. 

the countdown begins. 

y/n's POV

10 seconds left of the year

10! 9! 8! 7!!...

we all practically scream. the room is strangely tense at this time. 

for once in a while, I get that really really good feeling in my chest, the one where its warm and promising. 

promising..??

6!5!!!! 4!!!

I turn to albert. don't know why. something, just told me to.

he turns to me too, and puts his hands on my midsection. not suddenly, but fast enough considering there was a few seconds left.

I put mine on his shoulder.

now, time is moving slow. we just look at each other. the combination of nervousness, hope, joy, gives off this unique adrenaline rush. I kind of love it.

*forget abt the cups lololol*

3!! 2!!1!!

he moves his head down to mine, and I head mine to his. and I let it happen. it's so weird, were somehow both so familiar. we got so familiar in so little time.

fireworks fill within me, my heart, my brain, and ironically go off in real time too. I wonder if he felt that. I wonder what this makes us, I wonder what will happen next. this feels so unreal, and i'm so happy. 

I cannot believe my life right now. I did it. I actually did it. we both did. I mean I knew eventually I would, but I really did. 

"happy new year guys!!!"  jayden, denis, and dani scream at eachother. we hear party poppers and noise makers go off. "yeah!!!!" cheering can be heard from the neighbors across the street. 

I kissed albert and he kissed me. even if it ended fast, still happened. 

 after a moment we break apart and look at each other. a golden feeling washes over all of me. 

"..thank you.." he whispers to me. I don't even care to see if anyone noticed us. I nod once and smile at the ground, I kind of wish I said something. we are now standing further apart than before. good times. 

the same feeling is still there, not leaving me. I don't think it will, for a while.

yeah, thank you.
