*Hazel's POV*
I wake up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock. Great, I think first day at a new school and I'm already annoyed at the world. This is gonna be a great day. Then I take a good look at the clock I only have thirty minutes. Good thing I took a shower last night. I quickly brush out my hair and add a dab of oil to give it some shine. Not so much that it looks wet though. Then I put on some foundation and concealer. Finally, I add some eyeliner and mascara. I never get dressed first because I don't want makeup on my outfit. I usually don't wear makeup because I like the way I look. I just stayed up really late last night on Wattpad. That may not have been the best idea.
I change from a pair of hashtag sleep pajamas to a blue T-shirt with a pipe and denim shorts with lace fringe at the bottom. I love these shorts they are so comfortable. I love the shirt it says "This is not a pipe". And it isn't a pipe its a drawing.
Might as well head downstairs. As I go down stairs I see a note on my door. It says:
Hazel,
We know this adjustment has been hard on you. But we want you to know we are proud of you. We will always be there to support you, in good or bad times. We hope this will cheer you meet us at the kitchen table.
Love,
Your ParentsWhat are they talking about? Well, duh it has been hard I've been homeschooled since second grade. Why in the world are they proud? They forced me into this! If it were my choice I would be homeschooled my senior year. But whatever, not like my opinion matters.
I am intrigued, why do they want to meet me for breakfast. I usually don't eat a lot, or I skip it all together. Whatever let's get this awkward thing over with.
"Hello Sweetie," my mother greets me. She is scrambling eggs as the toast pops up out of the toaster.
"Look who's ready to start their senior year!" My dad says, way too happy in my personal opinion. He usually has his nose in the newspaper, but it looks like he and mom were talking.
"Whatever happened to the typical good morning? Did I interrupt something?" I question.
"Looks like someone isn't as excited as we are. No you didn't interrupt anything darling," my father replies.
"You're just excited to be rid of me," I reply.
"Did you get the note?" My mother looks like she is going to burst with excitement. She has the look a five year old does on Christmas.
"Yea. What was that about anyway?" I inquire.
"Honey, can we tell her already!"
"Mom, I think you have had enough coffee. Tell me what, am I gonna have a baby brother?" I add she is shaking. They exchange a look of deep thought.
"Of course! It's what we've been waiting for!" My dad answers my mom.
"What are you guys talking about tell me already!" I'm so confused and curious I just a want some clarity.
"Hurry go outside," my mom says.
"Sheesh! I'm going, I'm going."
In front of me is a Toyota Camry. What? I'm shocked. I was expecting my parents to take those awful picture by the tree we do every year. We live close enough to the school buses will drive by and they see us. Not a car! At least not a car for me! I would have thought my sixteenth birthday, Christmas, heck who knows Easter! But the first day of school! This is a whole new level of whoa!
My dad walks over an jokingly shuts my jaw. I don't realize it was literally hanging open.
"Do you like it?" My mom asks.
"Of course I like it, it's amazing! I honestly was worried about being seventeen and a senior and having my parents drop me off at school."
They laughed really hard. They even turned red. Then my dad got this look of seriousness on his face. Uh oh what did I do?
"Just like anything else this car, means new responsibilities. You must wash, clean, and wax it, at least twice a year to protect it from the elements."
Okay I'm thinking not that bad. I keep my room clean most of the time. Then he continues I start to worry.
"You must be home by seven on school nights to maintain that high GPA, unless you have already cleared it with us. On the weekends you must be home by eleven, and not a minute later." That is gonna be easy I barely leave the house now.
"No texting or talking in the phone while driving! Do you understand?"
I sigh, "Yes dad I understand."
"One more thing," my mom says and pulls me to the other side and whispers in my ear. "No funny business, do you understand what that means.
I find stuff like that really awkward and it make me uncomfortable. I really did I nodded my head very enthusiastically.
"That's my girl!" She says proudly. "One more thing say cheese!" She pulls out a camera an takes a picture of me by the tree and the new car. I knew it was to good to be true.
I'm just glad it won't be a screaming baby to keep me up all night. I think I will stick with Wattpad.
