***Gus POV***

This year is going to be great. Senior year, the last year of high school, and then I'm out of here. I'm done, gone, ghost.

I decide I should probably get out of bed, and get dressed I have half an hour before I have to leave. I take a shower get dressed and put on my letterman jacket. I'm on the basketball team and I'm captain. I've been on the varsity team since freshman year. I don't really enjoy basketball. I love the sport, don't get me wrong, I just can't stand certain people on the team.

This year is going to be amazing. I have a wonderful girlfriend, Olivia, and she's the cheer captain. Nothing could come between us. For the most part we are the perfect couple, but we all have our ups and downs. But besides being beautiful, she's tough before she was a cheerleader she was getting into fights. We actually met in detention.

I walk down the stairs to the kitchen. I greet my parents and we eat breakfast in silence. My parents and I have a great relationship, we are really open. It's just I'm not a morning person. My dad has his face stuck in the paper, and my mom has tears in her eyes. I know exactly why. Her baby is growing up and is in his last year of high school, blah blah blah. I'm glad she cares it just I don't want to upset her and her world only to revolve around me.

I grab her hand and say, "It's gonna be ok."

"I know. I just can't believe that my final baby is almost done with high school."

"Well wish your baby luck for their first day of school."

"Good Luck and have a good day at school."

"Love ya both." I kiss my mom's forehead, and hug my dad. I don't know why, but I feel like I should.

I get in my truck and drive to my girlfriend's house. She's sitting on the porch waiting for me. She is wearing a green tank top that says "follow your heart" with short cut off jeans. She is smiling and her entire face lights up.

"Hey beautiful, follow your heart and come over here!"

She sits there, she likes to tease me. "Hi handsome!"

I kiss her, but something doesn't feel right. Her brother walks out and looks disgusted.

"You guys are disgusting."

"You're just jealous that I'm dating someone, and you're not."

"Shut up, Olivia, we all know that's not true. I've turned down many girls."

"Hey, enough of that. Let's get to school beautiful," I reply breaking up the brotherly and sisterly love.

We drive to the school it's only a few minutes, but she talks non-stop. She talks, and talks, and talks. I think she says something about her brother, a beach, and a book. I zone her out sometimes I wish she were quiet.

"Are you even listening?"

"No."

"That is just rude. You never listen to me! Ever!"

"Yes I do."

"No you don't."

"Fine. Ask me a question about you and if I can't answer it then you're right." I say as I pull into the school parking lot. This is going to be easy. I know everything about her and that's ten times more than I want to know. At this point I'm so mad I don't even care anymore.

"Fine..." she thinks hard for a moment. She thinks harder than I believed possible.

"Who did I see more this summer you or Mike?" I sit there in shock. Mike is captain of the football team. He also used to be my best friend then we got into a really bad fight. Let's just say we were both lucky not to get expelled.

"What!"

"Answer the question!" she exclaims.

"Better be me dammit!" I'm yelling.

"You. Are. Wrong," she says quietly.

"Get out." I am so pissed off right now. I never want to look at her again.

"What?"

"Get. Out. Of. My. Truck!" That is it. Words have not been created about how I feel. She gets out, and starts to stomp off. She turns around and yells through the window.

"Don't get pissy with me!" She yells. I look at her in shock. "You never made time for me! All you ever did was sit in your basement and play videogames! And if you're not doing that you're working out or practicing. I saw you a handful of times." She has tears in her eyes.

"I barely saw you because you were either spending time with your friends on the team or traveling somewhere. Not all of can wait on you hand and foot like you're parents do. You can't continue living like a princess."

"If you loved me you wouldn't be saying these things. So you know what we are done. I'm so glad because now I can date someone who loves me. Someone who can spend time with me. And someone who wants me." she stomps off.

I sit there for I don't know how long. I hear a tap on my window. It's Isaac, he's the only person I could care to talk to right now.

"Hey."

"Hey."

"So that was not a pretty break up."

"No it wasn't how much did you see."

"Right before she involved Mike."

"Great,"my voice is drenched in sarcasm. "So you do know how bad it was?"

"Yeah. Let's go."

I sigh and give in. I really don't want to go to school anymore, and I'm not pumped up anymore. As I walk into school I see her. The prettiest girl I have ever seen in my life.

"Isaac I got to go, man."

"Oh no you don't. You just broke up with Olivia you are not moving on that quick."

"What are you talking about, bro?" I ask trying to sound innocent.

"Dude, you can't lose you're head just because of a big pair of goo goo eyes." Isaac says.

"Just back me up will you. I am always  your wigman. It's about time to return the favor. I will see you later." I don't wait for his response, and walk over to the pretty girl.

"Hey! What's you're name?" I just have to known. I can't see this girl and not at least get to know her.

She looks up and in her eyes you can see the shock. It's like she never expected anyone to talk to her. "Uh...It's Hazel. Hazel Grace Lancaster."

"Well Hazel Grace, it was a pleasure to meet you. But sadly classes are about to start." I start to walk away.

"Um...I'm... sorry but can you tell me your name, and where the English room is at?"

"Oh, yeah I'm sorry. My name is Augustus Waters, and the English room is the first room on the right. If you let me grab my book I can take you there I have that class too."

"Um... okay thank you.

"No problem." I turn around smiling like an idoit. Until I see Olivia kissing Mike.
