We went to my Grandma's house and got settled in.
"Saaaaammmm lets go for a walkkkkkkk" Kate says.
"Ugh why? I'm so tired, I just want to take a nap."
"You can sleep when you're dead! We're in California, we need to make the most of it! And plus, you might see your little boyfriend again." I wish I could smack the smirk on her face right off.
"Kate, shut up. But I guess we can go for a little bit."
We get up of the couch and head for the door.
"Me and Kate are going for a walk!" I tell to my parents.
"Be back by 7!" My dad yells back. I look at my phone and see it's only 5:30. We have plenty of time to go for our walk.
"This town is so beautiful. Let's just stay here and never go back home." Kate breaks our silence.
"I wish. I would love to live here."
"Yo, Samantha!" I hear someone yell from not too far way. Nobody calls me Samantha, except Keaton. I turn around and there he is, on his skateboard coming to me with another guy.
"Uh hey Keaton."
"This is my brother Wes." He points to the other guy on the skateboard. Wes looks up and smiles at me.
"I've heard a lot about you Samantha." Wes says, winking. I look at Keaton and see that he's blushing.
"Apparently Keaton didn't mention how I don't like to be called Samantha?"
"Oh, he did. I just like to annoy people." He smiles once again.
"Oh, great. Well, this is my friend Kate." Kate smiles at the boys.
"We were just going to get some ice cream, you guys are welcome to join." Kate says. Ice cream? Does she even know any ice cream places here?
"Theres this really good ice cream place on the beach we can go too, if you don't already have a place picked out." Keaton suggests.
"They have the best ice cream you will ever eat." Wes adds.
"Okay, sounds good." I say. We start walking and the boys skateboard. Keaton and Wes are going slow so they don't get too far ahead and we all just make small talk.
"I've never been surfing." I add to our conversation.Wes and Keaton both stop and get off their boards with their jaws dropped.
"You're kidding, right?" Keaton asks shocked.
"Nope. There's no where to surf in Michigan. Only freshwater lakes."
"I'm taking you surfing. You have to surf when you're here."
"Okay. I'd love to try to surf."
We make plans to go surfing tomorrow, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't terrified.
We get to the ice cream shop and order the ice cream. I decided on getting rainbow, and the others got some weird flavors I never even heard of.
"How long are you guys staying in Huntington?" Wes asks us.
"Uh..." Kate looks at me.
"I'm actually not sure. Probably for a few weeks." I say. I never heard my parents mention when we were leaving.
"Oh that's cool. Me and Keats are going to take you guys on so many adventures."
"We are?" Keaton asks.
"Of course we are! We can't just leave our new friends here stuck in Huntington and going to the beach everyday!" Wes looks at Keaton.
"Oh so we're friends now?" Kate asks.
"Well duh. We are eating ice cream together." Wes says back.
"We barely know each other." Kate adds.
"Fine. I'll go first. Hello, my name is Wesley. I live in Huntingtin, not too far from your grandma. I used to watch her dog for her when she went places. I'm 19 and Keaton is my brother. And yes, I am single." He winks at Kate. "Keaton, your turn."
"Uh.. basically everything Wes said except I'm only 16."
"You guys know my grandma?" I ask.
"Well, Wes does. I don't really. I only met her once or twice."
"How do you know who my grandma is?" I ask Wes.
"Well I guess I don't, I just assumed. I watched her dog not too long ago and she mentioned having her son and his family coming here around this time. And plus, you guys were walking down the street she lived on so I just put the 2 together. Anyways, Samantha, it's your turn." Wes changes the subject.
"Okay, well I'm from Michigan. I'm 16 too. I hate being called Samantha. My best friend is Kate."
"Relationship status?" Wes asks me. My cheeks heat up.
"Keaton didn't say his."
"Keaton is single."
"Me too."
"Good. Kate's turn."
"I'm from Michigan. Sam is my best friend. I'm 17, and single too."
"Perfect. Know that we all know each other a little better, we will be the Fantastic Four." Wes says.
"Seriously?" I ask, laughing.
"If you question the name or laugh at it one more time, the Fantastic Four will soon be the Terrific Three."
"Ouch." Kate laughs. I roll my eyes and we walk along the beach. We stop on a bench and just eat our ice cream in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence which was nice, it was a very comfortable silence.
"Look! The sunset is so pretty!" Kate shouts.
"Wow. I've never seen a sunset like this." I add. It was truly beautiful. The sky was all orange with pink streaks and a little bit of purple. It was a type of sunset you only see on Tumblr or magazines.
"Keaton, can you take a picture of us in front of the sunset?" Kate asks.
"Yeah, sure." We smile at the phone.
"All 4 of us need a picture!" Wes says.
"Whos going to take it?" I ask.
"I'll go ask him." Wes says, pointing at the man who's walking by. He agrees and we all smile for the picture.
"Its 8:00?! Kate we gotta get back!" I start walking away back to my grandmas, dragging Kate with me.
"Wait, Samantha!" Keaton calls from behind me. I turn around and he's running to us.
"Can, I uh, get your phone number? In case something comes up and we can't go surfing or-" I cut him off.
"Of course. Here enter yours in on my phone and I'll enter mine in yours." We exchange number and say goodbye.
"He totally likes you." Kate smiles.
"Shut up."
