Austin:-
It had been nearly a week since Ethan's birthday party. The events at his birthday party are still lingering in my minds.
Today at school Mia, Ethan, Lily, and I were assigned to a group project by our history teacher, Mr. Johnson. It is focused on the history of New York City.
Mr. Johnson had provided us with a list of potential topics, ranging from the influence of immigration on the city's culture to the impact of iconic landmarks on its architectural landscape.
We are gathering at the school library for our first meeting. As soon as everyone came, we made our way to the library.
The setting seemed to mirror the changes that had occurred within our relationships. The once-stern librarian greeted us with a warm smile as we settled into a private study room.
The walls were lined with bookshelves filled with both familiar and unknown tales, creating an atmosphere of intellectual exploration.
Taking a seat around the study table, we began brainstorming ideas for our project.
We all exchanged ideas, bouncing off each other with a newfound excitement. As we discussed our project requirements, it quickly became apparent that we all had different research specialties to contribute. We each voiced our preferences and shared our areas of expertise.
Mia, with her love for history, suggested delving into the rich immigrant history of the city.
Lily, being an avid artist, thought it would be compelling to explore the influence of iconic murals in New York and focused on the aesthetics of the project.
Ethan, known for his outgoing personality, immediately volunteered to research the development of Broadway and its impact on the city's entertainment industry and also to the create presentation.
And finally, it was agreed upon that I would gather stats and data on the economic growth and influence of Wall Street.
We were discussing our project further when Mia suggested that we should divide our research and visit different locations throughout the city to gain a more comprehensive understanding of our respective topics.
It was an opportunity not only to gather information but also to explore the vibrant streets and hidden corners of New York together.
It was decided that Mia and I will explore different locations and Lily and Ethan will work on the information.
The next day I found myself next to Mia on Ellis Island, the gateway to America for millions of immigrants. Walking through the hallways of the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, we immersed ourselves in the stories of those who had passed through its doors.
Mia with an insatiable appetite for knowledge, asked thought-provoking questions to each other which engaged us in deep conversations about the struggles and triumphs of those who had fought for a better life.
As we stood on the grounds where history unfolded, she turned to me with her eyes shining with a mixture of curiosity and awe.
"Austin, can you imagine the hope and dreams of those who took this journey? It must have been a pivotal moment in their lives, shaping the very fabric of this city."I nodded, finding myself drawn to the intellect and the passion she brought to our shared endeavors. "It's incredible to think about. Their courage and determination laid the foundation for the multicultural tapestry that exists in New York today."
After a visit of three hours we finally decided to head back. "Wanna eat something, Davis?" She asked.
Not gonna lie but I am really starving as I did not ate my breakfast properly with a rush of coming here and we both haven't eaten a single thing since our visit.
"Yaa, sure. Let's go to a cafe nearby or..." before I could say anything, she jumped and said "I know a cafe nearby, let's go there."
Holding my hand in her, she started walking. And it happened again- my heart beat fastens.
I am going for a check up tomorrow, there is just something that is not right with me. Why does it always happens when I am with her?
It's not like I am in lov.... "NO" I shouted in the middle of the road. Mia looked at me with a surprising expression whereas people around us looked at me and walked away like nothing happened.
"Is something wrong?" she asked.
I took my hand back with a shrug.
"No there is nothing wrong, why?""Are you asking me,why? Wasn't that you who just shouted?" She exclaimed
"I.... I don't want to eat anything I am full"
"But didn't you just agreed on it?"
"I did. But suddenly I am not feeling like eating anything, so... I think we should go home our as work here is also done." I rushed
"Are you okay, Davis? Is something wrong with you? Let me check if you..." And she touched my forehead like I am a patient.
And something inside me moved. No this is not all good. Not at all good. I should hurry back to home.
I moved her hand and said "I am good nothing happened to me. Now I should go home and you should go too. Bye."
I walked away from there leaving her standing there alone. And as I came back home I went straight to mom. She must be home as it's her holiday today
"Mom,mom,mom!!!"
"Yes austin, wait!! Is there something wrong?"
"Why should be something wrong with me? Why are you all asking the same question?"
"Okay. You were just rushed so I... Leave it. Tell me why were you calling me?"
"Mom, I think there is something wrong with me."
"Didn't I just ask you the same question you are giving answer to?"
"No, I mean, there is something wrong with my heart."
"What happened to heart?"
"I don't know, it's just beating very fast. I feel like I couldn't breathe."
"What? How often does this happen? When does this started? Why didn't you told me earlier?"
"It just started like a few weeks ago.
And it doesn't happens often. It happens when I..."I started to think about the time it happens. It happened when you were in the library with mia, when you were thinking about her while going to sleep, when you watching her in the class, today when... A voice in my head called out.
"When does it happens sweetheart?"
Mom called me out.
"I.....aa...aahh..... actually....mmm..... thinking about that.....I think.....when....... aaaaa.....maybe....""Austin. Can you say it properly, please?"
"I think maybe... When I was in the library and while I was going to sleep and today while I was standing..... But, no. Actually it's when,no. I think when I was...no."
"When you were with someone, maybe" there was a knowing smile on her lips. Like she could read my mind."Ahhh... Maybe... Or not... Ahhhh.... I don't know seriously. I think I should just go to bed. I will come to the hospital with you tomorrow."
And as I made my way to my bedroom."Weren't you went out today with mia for your project work, darling."
I jerked and came back.
"How do you know about that?"
"Ethan ranged up. He told you to bring your maths book at school tomorrow. Your phone was not available so he called at the telephone."
"Ohh, did he. Actually there is a project we are working on together."
"While you were standing your heart beats increased, right?"
"Hmm"
"Was by chance mia happened to be there near you?"
"Yes, she was. I told you we are working on a project."
"Okay, there's no need of you to come to the hospital tomorrow. I think you are perfectly fine."
"But... Okay I think the same."And I came to my room and without washing up straight way on to my bed under my sheets and closed my eyes. I want to sleep as soon as possible.
But the sleep is just far away from my eyes. I just kept thinking about everything related to- Mia. A unknown smile touched my lips while thinking.
I think there's nothing wrong with my heart it's my brain. I bet I am looking like a weird guy smiling, god knows for what reason. Or do I know?"
