It was a silent night in the netherworld. Not a sound could be heard not even from the creatures that roamed the land. It seemed like the dark cloak of the night was silencing the world as if it was waiting for a specific moment to happen and didn't want anything to interrupt its attention on what it would be witnessing in the late hours.

Its patience was rewarded as soon a lone figure could be seen flying through the sky towards their destination. After a few minutes t1
hey reached a mansion and landed in front of it. Just then the moon couldn't contain its curiousity anymore and shone its light on the figure. Standing there was the demon Sullivan looking worriedly down to what he was holding revealing a small girl sleeping in his arms whose hands clutched tightly onto his clothes. Tearstains were still visible on her face and blood on her sleep wear. Turning his gaze back forwards the demon got closer to the door. It was opened by Opera who waited for his return. The red-haired's gaze drifted to the girl before they met the bespectacled ones of the older demon. "You're taking your whims too far."

Sullivan tilted his head to the side seemingly confused. "Whatever do you mean? I just got myself a granddaughter as I said...though the circumstances could have been better."

With that he entered the mansion to put the girl into her new room. Opera closed the door and followed behind asking. "You could've adopted any demon child you wanted. Why bother adopting the human girl as your grand child? What were you thinking?"

At this the older demon stopped in his tracks turning his head to look over his shoulder to reply. "Nothing to worry about. You'll understand someday, Opera." With that he turned his head back forward to continue his way. "I'm so excited for the years to come!"

Opera sighed at his antics but followed nonetheless still trying to understand the situation.

After satisfying their curiosity the night allowed the usual noises to fill the silence though it still wondered what the demon meant with 'the circumstances could have been better'? What happened that she was crying and had blood on her clothes?

----------------Flash back----------------------

It was a typical day in the human world. The young girl named y/n was sighing in relief once she and her parents got home. They managed to get the three of them in trouble again and they had to run for their lives. Y/n had to learn to evade dangerous situations since her birth because both her parents are quite unlucky. Her mother was attracting danger everywhere. Gangsters, aggressive animals, things falling from balconies and rooftops or being thrown around by other people; this stuff always found their way to her even if they had to break physical laws. Unfortunately, little y/n was targeted aswell when she was with her mother during those encounters. It wasn't any better if she was with her father. He was impossibly clumsy during the worst moments. Like the one time he was going down the sideway passing a table in front of a restaurant. He tripped over air and accidentally hit a man sitting at the table who choked on his food so hard people thought he was going to die. His company wasn't happy and after helping him they chased her father for a while to probably beat him up or worse. He got away by hiding in a library, though he got kicked out after somehow playing domino with the book shelves. If y/n hadn't evaded the danger she would have been squished to the floor.

This time she was out with both of her parents and they nearly were turned to swiss cheese by pissing off a gang leader. Her mother sighed exhausted before going into the kitchen to grab the first aid kit since all three of them had small scrapes and scratches, especially her father who tripped multiple times while they were running. He leaned against the door sliding down onto the ground gasping for air aswell. She came back with the kit and started treating the injuries, first being y/n's. The girl noticed the guilt in her parents eyes and tried to lighten the mood. "With all the running we have to do I can become a great athlete, don't you think?"

Both adults had to chuckle at their daughter's words and felt relieved that despite everything that happened to her due to her parents bad luck she still loved them and didn't want them to feel bad for something they couldn't control. They didn't know why they were blessed to have such a caring daughter. Usually people would stay away from them to not get thrown into their troubles aswell but she didn't care that she had to face many dangerous situations because of them. She knew her parents loved her and that was enough for her.

The mother smiled teasingly. "Maybe if they put someone behind you to chase you until you reach the goal."

Laughing the father added. "That would probably make the other athletes nervous aswell, killing two birds with one stone!"

The family had to laugh at the image. Once they calmed down the mother finished treating everyone and went into the kitchen to start making dinner. Y/n and her father went into the living room to continue reading together. More like the girl read aloud and he just listened to her talking like the characters probably would. After a while they were called into the kitchen to eat. They continued joking and were having a good time before it was time to go to bed and sleep. Y/n's parents brought her into her room, tucked her in bed and kissed her on the forehead wishing her a good night. The turned off the light and closed the door while y/n drifted off into dreamland.

Some time later the girl woke up due to a loud scream inside the house. Worried that her unlucky parents hurt themselves again and might need her help she climbed out of the bed and left her room. She heard noises coming from the living room and walked towards it. Once she stepped inside her e/c eyes widen in fear and horror. Her parents were sitting on the floor bleeding heavily while clutching their wounds trying desperately to slow the bleeding. In front of them stood a figure with their back towards y/n. They had long unkempt black hair and were presumably male judging by their build. The most shocking part was that they had horns, a pair of wings and a tail that swishes from side to side slowly. They chuckled maniacally before turning around and staring with sadistic eyes at the small girl. "Em ot gnimoc si yerp ym ekil smees. Kcans eht gniruoved trats llew sa thgim I ytsat os sllems ti ecnis tub dnaherofeb laem eht tae dluohs eno yllausu~."

(Translation: Seems like my prey is coming to me. Usually one should eat the meal beforehand but since it smells so tasty I might as well start devouring the snack~.)

(If I remember correctly the demon speech is the sentence backwards from the first episode before sullivan used his magic. Please tell me if I'm wrong so I can correct it!)

Y/n stood there frozen in fear tears forming in her eyes. Just when the creature tried to grab the child he was hit with something on his head. "Keep your hands off of our daughter!"

The creature turned their attention back to her father while her mother gestured to her to run away with pleading eyes. Before she could do that she heard a voice that told her "I'll take care of that." and the girl's vision turned to black.

She didn't know how much time passed but when she opened her eyes she saw a male face looking down at her. He was wearing glasses and had a white mustache and small horns on his head. At first the girls eyes widened in fear but he said reassuringly while wiping away her tears with one hand. "Don't worry little one. You are safe now. The mean demon is gone."

She looked at him confused before the image of her injured parents came back to her. Frantically she asked. "Why am I with you? Where are my parents?"

At this the male frowned not knowing how he should explain it to the girl. "I'm sorry but your parents didn't survive. I am taking you with me as my grand daughter since it was their dying wish that I protect you in their stead."

Hearing this the girls eyes filled with tears and she cried loudly. The male shifted her position in his arms so she could cry into his chest while he could stroke her back soothingly. He waited patiently until she cried herself to sleep. The demon was torn inside since on the one hand he finally had a cute grand child to dote on and brag about but on the other hand he felt bad for being excited about it considering what happened to her. Looking down at her sleeping figure he promised to be there for her from now on and protect her to the best of his abilities. With that he set off to the netherworld to get her to her new home and her new life.

A/n: To prevent confusion, Sullivan already used the spell to make y/n understand demon language while she was unconscious.
