Cinder gave the Pokemon a bright smile. “Hi! I’m Cinder, it’s nice to meet you all,” she greeted the new companions. “This is Xeno. Don’t mind him, he can be kind of emo sometimes.” She motioned towards the lucario standing next to her who wore an untrusting expression.

A gallade stood up, approached Cinder, and put his hand out. Cinder accepted his offer welcomingly and they both shook hands. “My name is Eclipse. I am from the Dark Kingdom,” he said, sounding calm and serious. “If I’m not mistaken, you’re a pure fire-type, and that means you’re likely from the Fire Kingdom.”

Cinder nodded. “Yep! Proud fire type, here. You said you’re from the Dark Kingdom? How did you end up here, in the Ice Kingdom?”

“I had to run away from-” Eclipse started, but was interrupted by a yamper who started barking and jumping side-to-side excitedly. The electric-type ran around Cinder’s feet twice before speaking.

“I’m Bolt! What’s your name? Oh, that’s right, it’s Cinder,” he said. “Do you like playing around a lot? Good, because I do, too!”

Cinder was taken by surprise by Bolt’s energy. She smiled warmly and crouched down to his level. “I love playing around, but this isn’t the best time.” She pointed to her frozen arm then stood back up. “Actually, Asher said there’s someone here that can help me.”

“They must’ve been referring to me. May I take a look?” Eclipse requested. Cinder smiled and nodded in confirmation.

“Yes, please do! I may not be screaming in pain and agony, but it really hurts.” She held her arm out to Eclipse and he held it gently. He examined it for a bit before closing his eyes, signaling that he understood. “So, is there anything you can do?”

“Of course I can. Here, come sit by the fire.” Eclipse placed his hand on Cinder’s back and led her to a flat stone next to the fire, where he sat beside her. Xeno couldn’t help but feel a tinge of jealousy but didn’t say anything. He just sat on the other side of Cinder, keeping his distance.

“Keep your arm by the fire. But don’t get it too close, in case you have frostbite or hypothermia. I don’t want you dying or getting sick or anything,” Eclipse said. He ran his hand over Cinder’s frozen arm, causing Xeno’s jealousy to spike. He grimaced and had to hold back a growl as he turned away from the two to look outside the igloo instead.

How can she be so trusting? he thought. They’re all probably plotting our demise right here and now. That one in the corner, he glanced at the shadowy figure in the back of the igloo, looks especially suspicious. They haven’t said a word. And is that duosion really sleeping?

The suspicious lucario glared back at Eclipse and Cinder, his eyes widening when the gallade had one hand placed on Cinder’s left shoulder and the other holding her iced forearm. He bared his teeth, crossed his arms, and looked the opposite way again. Eclipse seemed to notice this and tilted his head. “I’m sorry, are you two in a romantic relationship? I do not mean to be too touchy, all I want is to help.”

Both Cinder and Xeno tensed. The Striker Pokemon shook her head. “Uh, no, no, we’re not a thing. We’re just friends who are traveling together,” she explained. Xeno grumbled something incoherent to himself.

“Oh. Then I suppose my touches weren’t a problem,” Eclipse said, and Cinder nodded.

“No, not at all! If it’s needed, you can continue,” she assured. Eclipse held his hand up and shook his head.

“That won’t be necessary. I’ve already noted everything I need to. You seem to be in a healthy condition, and you don’t feel too cold.”

Xeno growled in annoyance then finally asked, “When’s lunch? I was promised a meal!” He pointed an accusatory finger at Asher, who was sitting in between an energetic yamper, Bolt, playing with a dirty and torn-up ball and a duosion snoring away peacefully.  The vaporeon just stared at Xeno with an innocent expression.
