The Dark Kingdom was still and quiet, and the starry night sky reached for as long as a Pokemon could see. A skinny morpeko, who was munching on a small Oran berry, rested on a tree branch, plopping down on its bottom as it enjoyed its tasty treat. Its nose suddenly twitched and its ears pulled back when it heard a loud flapping sound coming straight for it.
It panicked when it turned its head behind it to a corviknight, much larger than your average corviknight, diving straight for it, throwing its Oran berry up and quickly skittering down the tree. The corviknight let out a soft chuckle and smirked before snatching up the Oran berry into his beak and landing on the tree, its talons curving over the thin branch. It gulped the Oran berry down then glared at the gloomy castle in front of it.
The Dark Kingdom castle wasn't much compared to the complexity of the castles in other kingdoms. It had two watchtowers on the side and a few creaky wooden steps that led up to the main part of the castle, which was made up of wood and dead leaves. Two torches with a light purple fire lit up the entrance, and there was a rectangular path that reached around the main castle where two guards constantly patrolled.
Corviknight preened his left wing before flying off to the castle, creating strong gusts of wind with each flap of his heavy steel wings. He took out the two guards, a dragapult and a grimmsnarl, with one swift slice of his sharp-edged wings as the two guards crossed paths. He walked inside the castle, his jagged claws clacking against the wooden floor.
He saw the thrones not even a few steps into the castle, yet no king or queen to fill them up. A bisharp calmly approached him with a stern and serious look in his eyes. "Excuse me if I'm rude, but if I may, what're you doing in the castle? Did Draco and Trickster let you in?" he asked, a polite yet strict tone in his voice. "I may need to have a talk with them if they did... Queen Umber never informed her guards or servants of any guests, not from what I know, anyways."
Corviknight chuckled lightly before gazing down at the bisharp menacingly with his glowing red eyes that seemed like they could pierce the soul. "That's cause I wasn't invited, short one," he said, patting the bisharp on his head with his wing and leaving a green chip there, which the bisharp didn't notice. "I'm here to challenge the queen, and you're going to lead me to her."
"Sir, with all due respect, you do know that only heirs to the throne-" Bisharp started, but was interrupted by his own thoughts. His eyes flashed green, then turned into a dull black. It was almost as if his mind had obtained new information, and had to reset to process it. (honestly tho relatable) "Yes, sir. I'll bring you right to her, my king."
Corviknight's face lit up when he heard the bisharp's response. "Ah, so those tiny green things do work," he muttered to himself, staring at the green chip on the bisharp's head in interest and putting the tip of his wing over his open beak in awe.
"What was that, sir?" the bisharp inquired.
Corviknight gave him his signature chuckle as he leaned down to the bisharp's eye level. "Oh, nothing. Just talking to myself." He tilted his head, his eyes searching the bisharp curiously. "Say, I never caught your name. What was it?"
"It's Blade, sir." The bisharp, who was now known as 'Blade', placed his arms at his sides and bowed down stiffly. "You may follow me now, to challenge the queen."
Blade leaned back up, straightening his back and fixing his posture before turning around on his heel. He marched past the thrones and into a dark room, looking straight ahead and not taking any glances back. He seemed to be heavily focused on this job Corviknight gave him.
"Now, this should be exciting..."
All the while, a group of pawniard stood off in the shadows, watching the whole thing unfold with their blade-like hands held up to their mouth. They all ran off at the tallest pawniard's signal, most likely to go warn the royal family of the dangers ahead of them...
