CHAPTER 0. A LIFE ONCE LIVEDIn the quiet moments, when the world around her slept, Charlotte Greene would lie awake, the weight of her unfulfilled dreams pressing heavy on her chest. The memory of her once-bright future haunted her like a ghost, its presence felt in every breath and every heartbeat.
It was in these moments of solitude that she allowed herself to grieve for the life she had lost, for the possibilities that had been ripped away by the cold, unfeeling hands of fate. The pain of her shattered dreams cut deep, carving a hollow ache within her soul that no amount of time could heal.
Before the world was overrun by the undead, Charlotte Greene's life had been simple and peaceful. She had grown up on the farm, surrounded by endless stretches of fertile land and the love of her family.
Hershel Greene, her father, was a man of deep faith whose wisdom and kindness had guided her throughout her life.
Memories of her mother's gentle touch and her brother's infectious laughter taunted her, reminding her of what she had lost. The pain of their transformation cut deeper than any physical wound, leaving scars that would never fully heal. She yearned for the life she had once known, for the comfort of their presence, but it was all gone. The monsters that now inhabited their bodies had stolen everything from her, leaving only a void in their wake.
Amidst the darkness that shrouded the Greene farm, a beacon of light emerged in the form of a young man named Atlas Reed, a valued member of Rick Grimes's group that searched for refuge on their farm. With eyes that sparkled with determination and a smile that exuded warmth, Atlas was a contrast to the bleak world around them.
Their conversations, though hushed and fleeting, became a lifeline for Charlotte, a source of solace and understanding in a world that often felt cold and unforgiving. Atlas listened intently to her fears and insecurities, offering words of encouragement and support that she had never experienced before. In his presence, she felt seen and understood in a way that she had never thought possible.
And as their bond grew, so too did the seed of hope that was buried within Charlotte's heart. With each word of encouragement, each shared moment of laughter, the seed began to unfurl, its fragile tendrils reaching toward the light that Atlas embodied.
However, he wasn't the only person who seemed to keep her sane during these times. Among their group was a young boy named Jameson Parker, whose wide, haunted eyes revealed the scars of a childhood lost to the horrors of the apocalypse.
There was a depth to Jameson that went beyond his age, a depth that could only be forged through the fires of adversity. His eyes, once filled with innocence, now held a haunting wisdom that spoke volumes about the horrors he had witnessed. It was a gaze that seemed to say, "I have seen the worst, and yet I am still here".
Charlotte knew that their farm was not just a place to grow crops and raise livestock; it was a sanctuary, a refuge from the harsh realities of the outside world. It was a place where they could rebuild their lives, and maybe the new group around Rick Grimes could be the key to rebuilding the long-lost stability.౨ৎ
Rainer Dixon was no stranger to feeling like a failure. With only his older brother, Daryl, by his side, he couldn't rely on anyone else in the group. While he wouldn't say he missed his brother Merle, he knew that his two brothers were the only ones he could truly trust. There was no one else out there in the world for him, both before the apocalypse and even now.
Before the apocalypse, his life held no value, making it impossible for him to find a purpose to carry on in this harsh new world. Death followed them everywhere, there was no reason to see the light, there was just darkness. The shadow loomed over him constantly, casting a dark cloud over his every thought and action. The fear of losing his life, or worse, losing his humanity, consumed him. It was as if the very essence of hope had been snuffed out, leaving only despair in its wake.
So he keeps to himself, not trying to form any relationships with people who are going to die anyway. His barriers remain unbreached until he stumbles upon an exasperating girl in the woods.
Slowly but surely, her persistence chipped away at his hardened exterior, revealing a vulnerability he had long buried deep within himself. Despite his initial resistance, Rainer finds himself drawn to her warmth and compassion, finding solace in her presence during the darkest of times.
But he knows this is not the end; it is only the beginning.𝜗𝜚
author's note
A little short introduction to kind of explain the dynamics.
I hope it made my plot idea a little bit clearer. <3
