(Opening titles)
THE NAME'S BROGAN, LIEUTENANT BROGAN. FOR TWENTY YEARS I WAS WITH THE NYPD. NOW, WELL LET'S JUST SAY I'VE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER PRECINCT.
We are shown the usual exciting opening titles before breaking to the "This Episode" header to reveal a trailer for this latest instalment. The Space Cruisers fly through Altor. A man looks nervously at us. A fat green bloke with pink spots on his head turns to the camera. An explosion occurs in a building. Brogan and Haldane sweat in the gym. A man wonders through a dim street. Police officers shoot at each other. Cars chase down a street at high speed. A criminal is ruthlessly interrogated. Jane Castle in the gym smiles. Another man hides in fear. Glass smashes everywhere. Brogan takes a man down. A Cruiser parks down a side street. Criminals run down a passage. A gunfight breaks. This then goes into the two ad bumpers present in each episode of the series.
We see over a suburban, dim part of Demeter City. Smog fills the air, and we view over a tacky, run-down area. Several chunky cargo vessels fly over, creating pollution in their path. They also sound horns out to alert of their presence. Below in the streets, we see various places of slum housing, with graffiti over the flats and people in the foreground trading drugs. From the bottom of the flat, the door opens to reveal Yardley coming out. Yardley is a middle-aged male Crayon. He is simple and innocent. Dressed in ragged clothes that are stitched together or are dirty, Yardley's physique is skinny and is short for his species. Yardley carefully exits, minding his own business.
Taking out some garbage to the bins, he crosses to the other side of the passage to the overflowing bins. Flies surround the area unpleasantly, worsening the vile stench of the bins. As Yardley prepares to place the rubbish for disposal, a man jumps out from the bins and shouts to frighten him. Yardley jumps back, frightened by the shock. The man in the bins is a homeless vagrant, who has made himself as comfortable as possible in the bins for food and shelter. The hobo then laughs at Yardley. The Crayon then leaves his rubbish at his side and returns upstairs to his flat. The hobo then continues drinking a bottle of alcohol. This then cuts to the entrance of Yardley's flat. His one-bedroom flat is run-down, with dirt on the floor, a filthy bed, a couch, and worn-out paintings on the wall. Yardley opens the door to find his landlord waiting outside. We see Yardley's back but do not see the face of the imposing landlord.
Landlord:
Your payments are falling behind. You know what happens if you default.
Yardley:
Just give me a little more time. I can sort this out.
Landlord:
You have plenty of time, Yardley. Default me once more and you're out on the streets. Copy?
Yardley:
Yes, but I...
Landlord:
Good. I know I can rely on you. Can't I?
The landlord then leaves, laughing at him. Yardley closes the door, with a worried expression on his face. This transitions to see Yardley walking slowly down the passageway on his own with a coat that is too big for his body. He has a paper under his arm. Big bullies arrive up to him from behind. Three of them menace him. Their faces are not seen.
Colber:
Hey, Yardley. Fancy seeing you down here, again.
Yardley:
You. Keep out of here. I mean it.
Colber:
See you read the news, Yardley. May I have a glance?
